Oz Returns: Follow the Real Life Yellow Brick Road

the best-suited homes for each of the unique characters from the classic hit, The Wizard of Oz.

Oz_-_The_Great_and_Powerful_PosterThe Wizard of Oz has always been on my Top 5 favorite movies of all time. In fact, when I was a little girl, I watched it on VHS so many times that the tape wore out. (For those born after 2000: here is the Definition of a VHS). When I found out Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful (@DisneyOzMovie) was hitting theaters March 8, I knew we had to do something very special as tribute to one of the greatest film classics.

In light of the highly anticipated movie, we thought of highlighting a series of monochromatic homes with green hues in honor of the Emerald City, but Coldwell Banker Real Estate and our worldwide luxury counterpart Coldwell Banker Previews International, wanted to up the ante and focus on the lifestyle of each character. We invite you to join us for this first-ever Yellow Brick Road virtual caravan tour! So sit back and relax as we take you around the country and show you the best-suited homes for each of the unique characters from the classic hit, The Wizard of Oz.

For Dorothy and Toto: The “Blueberry Hill” Estate– $3,900,000

It may not be Kansas but we think Dorothy would feel right at home in this elegant 14-room brick Georgian Estate. This home provides a balance of Old-World charm and opulent amenities, and is outfitted with hues of her signature blue and white checkered dress. And, don’t think we forgot about her beloved furry friend. For Toto, there is a special dog grooming tub.

For the Wicked Witch: The Old-World Castle Estate– $2,750,000

We thought it would be wise to leave a 2,000-mile buffer between Dorothy and the Wicked Witch. Located on one of the most prestigious addresses in a country club, this home is nestled in a mature landscape with a facade reminiscent of a stone castle, round turret and iron gate. This 6,500-square-foot home would provide plenty of room for the flying monkeys as well.

For Glinda, the Good Witch: The Majestic French-Inspired Palace– $2,650,000

When one thinks of Glinda, thoughts of elegance, charm and majesty come to mind. This home captures all of that and much more. Situated in a Castle Pines Village, this home offers elegance and charm with comforts from the French countryside, as well as a private mother-in-law/nanny suite.

For the Cowardly Lion: The 1941 Hollywood Estate– $25,580,000

There was no other choice in our mind for this home because the lion picked it himself! This gated and private estate was originally built by Paul Williams in 1941 for Bert Lahr, the Cowardly Lion in the original Wizard of Oz. The 6,000-square-foot, four-bedroom home, which now spans 12,000 square feet with eight bedrooms and 10 baths, features two detached houses with access to several private amenities. This estate is coveted for its utmost privacy and has a lineage of notable past celebrity owners, including Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball, among many others.

For the Scarecrow: Life on the Farm– $6,750,000

The Scarecrow has a tough life…no brain and a high-maintenance bod–imagine having to stuff yourself with hay every few steps? Not fun! For the Scarecrow, we selected a fantastic, restored federal-style home that sits on 150 acres of a wooded estate, which also includes two guesthouses and three tenant houses, as well as a protected deep water pier. Because it is a working farm, he would have easy access to all the hay that his heart desires.

For the Tin Man: The Polished Architectural Modern Address– $12,500,000

The Tin Man is one cool dude, and although he lacks a heart, we think he would love the glitz and glam of life in Beverly Hills. This architectural wonder sits behind double gates with panoramic views of the city and ocean. It also features a museum-quality renovation with modern finishes and custom lighting.

For the Wizard Himself: A Whimsical Wonder– $2,500,000

It wouldn’t take a genius to realize this home is a stunner. This 16-acre country estate even has a hot air balloon-err…we mean helicopter landing pad. Other unique features include a private orchard, horse stables, a tennis court and a Custom Caretaker’s cottage and a very spacious Guest House. After all, the Wizard has been growing in popularity having helped Dorothy and her friends.
