Jacksonville Neighborhoods for a Boat Owner
Finding the right neighborhood in the Jacksonville area when you’re a boat owner isn’t hard. Jacksonville and its surrounding counties have an abundance of waterways with great boat ramps for salt water and fresh water to get you out on the water.
If you are a boat owner, finding a neighborhood in the Jacksonville area with a boat ramp nearby could be a priority when searching for a new home. Throughout Jacksonville and surrounding counties, there are a number of neighborhoods that offer boat ramps for both salt water and fresh water angler opportunities.
Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island
In Nassau County just north of Jacksonville, there is an area south of A1A and just west of the Intracoastal that is known as Nassauville. Here, there are two large boat ramps – Holly Point and Goffinsville Park – that provide easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. While Holly Point is on a narrow tidal creek and can sometimes be tricky to navigate at low tide, Goffinsville Park is located on a deeper waterway with access at both high tide and low tide.
If you’d prefer fresh water fishing, the Lofton Creek boat ramp in Yulee on A1A is just seven miles away. Neighborhoods within a few miles of all three boat ramps include North Hampton, Amelia Walk, and Amelia National.
If you want to launch a much larger, ocean going vessel, the D.D. Bartels boat ramp at the north end of Amelia Island places you at the St. Mary’s River Inlet and Atlantic Ocean within minutes.
Jacksonville’s Northside
Residents on the northside of Jacksonville have access to any number of boat ramps, both freshwater and saltwater. Four boat ramps situated along Heckscher Drive place you into the St. John’s River where it’s just a short run out to the ocean. The Jim King/Sisters Creek boat ramp is home to the Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament. The Alimacani boat ramp is a great place to launch jet skis for play on the calm waters of the leeward side of Little Talbot and Big Talbot Islands. Neighborhoods in north Jacksonville, such as Victoria Place and Tidewater are located just minutes from Heckscher Drive.
Northwest St. John’s County
In northwest St. John’s County, you can choose boat ramps in Duval County along Julington Creek or five available ramps along State Road 13. All of these boat ramps provide direct access to the inner waterways of the St. John’s River. Neighborhoods such as Bartram Park and Julington Creek Plantation are just minutes away.
Fleming Island/Clay County
In the Orange Park/Clay County area, numerous boat ramps can be found just off U.S. 17. At the foot of Lakeshore Drive is the Lakeshore boat ramp, which offers two launch areas. Off U.S. 17 along Doctors Lake, there are numerous marinas offering launch facilities for a fee. Any of these boat ramps will provide quick access to the inner waterways of the St. John’s River. Great neighborhoods such as Eagle Harbor, Pace Island, and Margaret’s Walk are just a few miles away.
