Summer months are coming when you’ll start planning those trips to maybe that vacation home by the beach or on the lake or just away from it all. Sure we’d all like to say that we’re the intellectual types who don’t watch TV when we’re on vacation because we’re so busy enjoying nature or reading Ernest Hemminway, but let’s be honest with ourselves. On those rainy days or nights, sometimes you just want to kick back and watch a ball game or reruns of Seinfeld that you religiously DVR. Am I right?
There are two things that seem to terrify most children when they are alone in their room at night…”monsters” in the closet/under the bed and darkness. You can blame it on scary movies, TV shows and video games but this fear seems to set in way before children have exposure to any of these things. [...]
The couch in front of the TV. It’s one of life’s great comfort zones. You know the spot. It’s where your body perfectly relaxes as you sit down and tune in to your favorite TV show or movie. Chances are when you get situated in your favorite seat that you’re also carrying a device with you. For some it may be your phone. For other it’s a tablet (most likely an iPad). And others still like the laptop open as they prop their feet up. Yes, our homes are more connected than ever and some apps are trying to make our relaxation time a little more rewarding. The best one in my opinion is Viggle.
The almighty phone already rules our lives. It’s with me wherever I go. Commands my attention. It’s not just a phone. It’s my connection to work, videos, my camera, entertainment and access to the almighty Oracle, Google, at a moment’s notice. Now the phone looks to be the scepter to help rule my castle.
This week on FOX millions of people watched what has become a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Yes, I’m referring to Nicki Minaj’s hair, but also the fact that it’s the annual season for American Idol to return. Millions of amateur singers screech, bumble and sometimes even sing their way to one of those illustrious golden tickets to Hollywood. Most of those auditioning probably practiced at home. Ok some of them practiced and a lot of them could use some more practice. What better place is there to practice your Taylor Swift imitation than in the shower? Well have I got the perfect shower head for the home of the next American Idol.
Sci-fi movies and The Jetsons cartoon would have us believe that the future home is minimalistic in nature. Scenes of these home in the future centuries are often portrayed as seemingly sterile environments with fewer objects and often all white decor. I say that’s a false view of the future, or at least the foreseeable future. If anything what is expected to unfold at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week will give us a look into not just what to expect this year, but for the next few decades. Here’s what I think you should be on the lookout for:
