Home of the Week: A House Built for Linemen

I’ve always wondered what it’s like to be recruited as a big time college football prospect. So when I learned Pat McClure-Smith, Broker/Owner of Coldwell Banker Pat McClure Realty in Mississippi, is selling the homes of former University of Mississippi head football coach Houston Nutt and his wife Diana, I couldn’t help but wonder if the team ever stopped by for a meal and pep talk.

It turns out, they have! Each year, Houston and Diana hosted a team dinner at their lodge property where they prefer to entertain. Players would visit the lake house to hang out, fish and shoot pool under custom Ole Miss helmet lights.

The Nutts have listed their 5,209 square foot 3 bedroom 3 bathroom lodge-style lake home and 45 acre private lake for $1.3 million and the neighboring 5,900 square foot 5 bedroom 6.5 bathroom estate for $1.6 million.

College coaches somewhat fill-in as parental figures for their players, so it only makes sense that the coach’s home sometimes doubles as the student’s during their dorm years. In fact, Houston and Diana’s homes were a strategic stop on recruiting trips for new players and their parents to make sure they knew they would have a home away from home.

Ole Miss football history isn’t the only thing that comes with the two properties. Both are gated with 45 acres of private spring-fed lake which Houston and Diana have kept well stocked with fish. The lake home and estate both offer a multitude of activities including lake or pool swimming, fishing, canoeing, boating, jet ski, surf board paddling, hiking, biking and other recreational activities.

So whether you’re coaching an SEC football program, raising a family or just looking for a place to entertain, relax or enjoy the beautiful Mississippi countryside, these listings are easy touchdowns!
