Inside the Colorado Home of Blues Legend Joe Cocker

A ski retreat on the market ‘with a little help from Joe’s friends’

Legendary blues icon Joe Cocker turned to friend and Coldwell Banker Colorado Realty agent Bob Pennetta when he decided to live in peaceful Colorado. The “With a Little Help from My Friends” singer settled on a majestic ranch, swapping the hustle and bustle of Santa Barbara, California for the calm serenity in Crawford, Colorado.

Joe and Bob’s friendship stems from the days when Bob had owned and lived on a citrus plantation in the Caribbean. The two met and stayed in touch throughout the years until both were reunited once again in Telluride, Colorado, where Joe was passing through for a concert stop. Joe was so enamored with the beauty of the state and had an urge for small town life that he decided to buy a home there and asked Bob to help.

The result was Mad Dog Ranch, named after Joe’s Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour, a ski retreat reminiscent of an English manor. The property is 15,000 square feet with eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, snooker room with wet bar, music room, library, livestock barn, corrals, riding area, spacious gardens and two greenhouses where Joe grows “Joematoes.”

In addition to making music, Joe also finds time to give back to the community he has called home. Each year, Joe organizes a teacher’s appreciation barbecue at his property for staff of the local school districts. He has also hosted several benefits at Mad Dog Ranch, which have raised money for the Cocker Kids Foundation, a non-profit Joe started to support area youth in education, recreation, the arts and athletics.

Joe has said that he loves living in Colorado because he can be a regular guy where nobody hounds him. While Mad Dog Ranch is currently on the market for $7 million, Joe and his wife Pam plan to stay in the area nearby.

I have never forgiven Joe Cocker for screwing me out of a concert in Moncton, NB in the early seventies. He came on stage, mumbled a few unintellegable words and puked on the stage. No refunds were given or offered due to opening act. FU Cocker. You owe me.
