Innovative Infill House Creates 2 Separate Homes On a Small Lot

It’s the last full week of October. Next week only has two days of October in it, but with one of them being Halloween there is still much of October to be enjoyed. While you start to consider just how close that makes the holidays and it raises your anxiety level slightly, here are some real estate headlines to prep you for the week ahead:

AOL Real Estate has a feature on glass houses that will shatter your expectation. That’s their description, not mine.
On a very different note AOL Real Estate also has a feature on the homes of Libyan dictator, Muammar Gaddafi.
Via Inhabitat.com, in Ottowa, Canada an architect created an amazing structure that houses two separate homes on one small lot. And both places are incredible.
And finally, The Wall Street Journal asks if Oracle CEO, Larry Ellison, isn’t the most avid trophy home buyer in the world?

After reading the unique design article of the 2 family home
in Ottawa Canada and the unique collection of homes of Larry Ellison, I found
the articles to be just that unique. I love homes and think if I had it to do
all over again; I would become an architect so these articles were interesting
and what I would consider great conversation pieces, especially for the Real
Estate Expert. What I found useful and
helpful and for all the Realtors out there who do not have Bob Williams for
your mentor and Manager, informative are the videos beneath the video about the
Larry Ellison properties. One I will save to share with sellers with
unrealistic expectations of the market is titled, Are Home Sellers Selling to
Fast? Not quite sure if the short video answered that question to satisfaction
but it is straight forward and relays solid information so our sellers may be
able to make informed decisions instead of heartfelt decisions with regards to
their asking price.

There are some really great tips found here on this video blog. One thing I especially want to note is the statistic that 80% of buyers are looking for a move in ready home. With today’s busy lifestyle buyers have a enough to do when deciding to move so landscaping, painting and fixing up homes is not high on home buyers lists. This should speak volumes to sellers out there that a little effort in the beginning can help sell your home faster and for more money.

These “Real Estate Headlines for the End of October” all seem to fit in with the theme of Halloween:…
Some creepy things (Gaddafi owning property in the USA),
Some fantasies of another life ( Ellison’s huge homes collected all over the country),
Old-fashioned rock candy treats…great to look at- tough to actually “eat” or “live in”… (glass houses),
And…..everyone’s favorite trick or treat location….two homes in one spot…to easily increase the candy heist (two homes built so beautifully on one lot).

While creative I don’t think I would feel comfortable in a 25X40 home (1/2 of 25 X80 lot) straight up in a box. It is out of place in comparison to the neighboring homes. Tough resale?

An inspiring article on design in Ottawa Canada. It’s quite a deviation from the standard twin. Privacy was certainly considered as well as beauty and function. I would like to see more like that in our cities. I would be curious to see what the construction cost per square foot.

I read the article on glass houses that shatter your expectations which led me to the OWS story. I sympathize with the numerous people who have had a tough time in this economy. I also believe that the banks have not been exactly fair in their treatment of many homeowners who are legitimately trying to keep their homes and meet their obligations. However, when I read statements about the” distribution of wealth in this country is absymal”, it makes my blood boil. This is so antithetical to our capitalist system and to the principles that have made this country great.

What a variety of articles..I read them all! While I can’t see owning a glass house in New Hope,Pa, Laguna Beach is the perfect location! Gaddafi owning a home in Englewood, New Jersey, must have been terrifying for his neighbors..Did he feel at home there???? Two houses on one lot…hope they are quiet,small people..Actually it would work well for many people now who live together like kids moving back home or parents living with kids when they retire. And lastly, NO WONDER Larry Ellison is recently divorced….I can’t even imagine living with so much going on…..

I read all three stories; each of which was quite different. The one about Gaddafi’s homes in America was quite interesting, for I wasn’t aware that he and his family had homes in this county. It would be wonderful if the US could benefit from the sale of the properties. It was interesting to read about such a house in Canada. The pictures even make the interior look large.

I loved the looking at the glass houses. I especially loved the, “shimmering, heavenly glass house” called the , “Mind Bending Razor”. I am very familliar with LaJolla, and I know that it is one of the most beautiful spots anywhere in the world. The views were amazing…. 19 million dollar views! Thanks for sharing.

I read the article on Larry Ellison and couldn’t help but wonder two things: (1) is he preserving some of these magnificent homes for furture generations to admire, like a world museum of fine homes? and (2) imagine what he could do with that kind of disposable income in major cities across the U.S. where housing decay is rampant and so many are in need! Jobs and housing go hand in hand. Using wealth and creativity to help the many is far more admirable than acumulating for the pleasure of one. My last thought . . . I have several magnificent properties here in Bucks County with rich history I would like to sell him!

Glass houses were amazing- what views! What I liked most was that the one glass house said that each square foot will cost you $4,946!!!!!! Wow and we think $200 per square foot is alot!
