How To: Repair Wood Furniture
Ways to revive your wood furniture.
Our furniture are investments, heirlooms and decorative centerpieces. That’s why when they get scuffed or damaged it can really be frustrating. When I’m vacuuming I always end up hitting the seats in the dining room or the legs of the couch in the living room. Immediately after I panic for awhile. My first instinct may be to say it’s ruined but I did some research on repairing wood furniture. I found that there are at least a couple of things you can do to try to revive the pieces. Check them out below:
1. Walnuts When trying to remove things on your furniture’s surface like scuffs try mixing together 3 parts vinegar with 1 part walnut oil. Rub the final product into the distressed area with a cloth and watch the marks disappear.
Occasionally, depending on the area, you can use a whole walnut to help alleviate discoloration from scratches and the like. Gently rub a whole walnut into the furniture and watch the scratch slowly blend back into the piece. (Make sure the walnut closely matches the color of your furniture before doing this)
2. Tinted Wax Sticks Wax sticks are offered in a wide variety of colors. They are frequently used to help disguise any marks that may occur on furniture over time .
3. Wood Finishing Cloths Wood finishing cloths are great because they can quickly refinish and polish your furniture.
4. Repair Markers
Similar to the wax sticks, furniture markers are offered in a variety of colors and can be great for a more precise use.

January 13, 2017I had no idea that a walnut could help alleviate discoloration from scratches. I can see why this would be a useful tactic to use if you have a couple places on your furniture with different colored marks. It seems like it would be a good idea to make sure you don’t ruin the couch when you do this. Perhaps researching it further or asking a professional would be a good way to go about it.
