Newest Hooptown

Coldwell Banker Picks Duke

This year Coldwell Banker used real estate data to fill out Tournament brackets and these real estate brackets are filled with upsets. But one bracket – The Newest Hooptown Bracket – looks like it could win an office pool. The four finalists in this bracket are Duke, Texas Tech, University of Texas and Missouri – with Duke as the champion 2011-1998. Those numbers show the average year homes in each town were built not predicted game score.

Durham itself has seen a revitalization in recent years. Its historic tobacco buildings and factories have been converted into loft-style apartments and the downtown area has seen the rise of cultural venues, entertainment spaces, shopping and dining. The downtown area has also attracted tech companies.

Lubbock, Texas – home of Texas Tech University, offers the classic charm of small-town America. The Texas Tech Red Raiders are part of the Big 12 Conference and their football team has won 11 conference titles plus played in 31 bowl games. Lubbok is more than just a football town, the Red Raiders hoops team has been to 15 Men’s College Basketball Tournaments. Lubbock is also home to the National Ranching Heritage Center, and it hosts the National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration each year.

University of Texas located in Austin, Texas’ capital city is a new hotspot for tech firms. In 2017 Austin was named the number one place to live in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. Austin has a bustling live music scene and is home to the annual South by Southwest festival, a festival of music, film, and interactive innovation taking place this month. Austin’s downtown district actually has the most bars of any zip code in the U.S. It’s the perfect city for social butterflies.

Columbia, Missouri – home of the University of Missouri (also known as Mizzou) is a classic American college town. The university and its affiliated healthcare system make up the largest employers in the city. The school’s journalism program is one of the best in the country and the town boasts plenty of music venues, bookshops, restaurants and bars.
