Living Room Revolution: LG’s “Modern Family Portraits”

On August 3, LG brought the living room revolution to life with its “Modern Family Portraits” event, which included a panel discussion that explored what the 21st century living room looks like today.

Today’s living room looks much different from the living rooms of 10 and 20 years ago, and the same goes for the home entertainment products and habits of the families within them. On August 3, LG brought the living room revolution to life with its “Modern Family Portraits” event, which featured a series of present-day living room vignettes showcasing how the modern family is designing and utilizing space.

If you are part of a “Modern Family” chances are you might fall into one of these scenarios. LG breaks it down into three groups:

  1. The Established Millennial Couple, who is combining smart home technology and entertainment from trendy bars and restaurants near their home.
  2. The Traditional Family, who uses their living room as a central entertainment hub where everyone gathers.
  3. The Empty Nesters, who are creating home entertainment caves while the kids go off to college.

The event also included a panel discussion that explored what the 21st century living room looks like, which Coldwell Banker independent sales associate Ricardo Rodriguez from Boston participated in as the real estate expert. Along with design duo Marks & Frantz and LG Vice President of Marketing, Dave VanderWaal, the panelists discussed how technology is at the forefront of today’s living room.

Millennials are spending more time at home rather than going out, while families are looking for better ways to entertain with technology. This is especially true when it comes to television, which still remains king in the American home. Nearly all U.S. households own at least one television (97 percent), with Americans watching TV for an average of 2.8 hours a day!

Ricardo highlighted that people have always purchased homes because of their potential for entertaining, and TV placement tends to be central. In the past, homeowners used to think about where to hide the television, but now they proudly think about how to display it front and center. With increased popularity of smart home technology, buyers are looking to develop living areas that can seamlessly integrate products that will enhance the space.
