Looking for Waterfront Properties? Jacksonville Has Plenty for Those Who Love Being on the Water

Love water? Jacksonville’s the place to be. Maybe you’re in the market for some perfect waterfront properties, or just something to do while visiting. Whether you’re looking for fishing, jet skiing, boating, or swimming, you can do it all here.

If you love water, Jacksonville’s the place to be. Maybe you’re in the market for some perfect waterfront properties, or just something to do while visiting. Whether you’re looking for fishing, jet skiing, boating, swimming, or just relaxing on a pontoon (my personal favorite), you can do it all here. The area boasts several rivers, canals, and creeks. And don’t forget the Atlantic Ocean! Instead of trying to name all the different waterways in Jacksonville, let’s hit on some of my favorites — you know, just to get your feet wet!

Atlantic Ocean

Between Duval and St Johns counties, there are miles and miles of beachfront property to be enjoyed. From north to south, you can explore Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and finally Ponte Vedra Beach. There’s always something to do at these beaches and their fabulous local eateries, bars, and surf shops. The Seawalk Pavilion hosts concerts and festivals throughout the year. Bring your bike and go for a ride down the shore during low tide. And make sure to visit the beachfront Huguenot Memorial Park and Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, where you can enjoy camping and visiting the jetties — and you might even be able to catch views of ships coming and going from Naval Station Mayport.

St. Johns River

At 310 miles, the St. Johns River is Florida’s longest river, and one of the few rivers in the country that flows north. Along the St. Johns, you’ll find many waterfront properties, homes, businesses, and wildlife in abundance. There are several marinas from which to rent a boat for the day so you can check out our lazy river. Take a river cruise downtown to the Jacksonville Landing, where you can enjoy local fare, catch a concert, or stay late for the nightlife.

The St. Johns River also branches off into many lakes, creeks, and canals, stretching into the surrounding counties of Clay and St. Johns. These counties are closely tied to Jacksonville, so you’re never far from your next water adventure. In Clay County, you’ll find Black Creek, Swimming Pen Creek, Doctors Lake, and Lake Asbury.

Lake Asbury is a hidden gem located in Middleburg, Florida. Many people (including some of the locals) think Lake Asbury is only the name of the community and not actually a lake. There are many homes surrounding this lovely treasure, and those living on Lake Asbury know how special it is.

While in Clay County, you may find yourself in the waters of Black Creek. If so, swing by Whitey’s Fish Camp for a quick bite. It’s one of the local favorites, and the gator tail is delicious! Plus, they have a bait and tackle shop on site, so you can fill up your bait bucket after you have filled your tummy. Then get back to the boat and head up to Doctors Lake, where you can continue the nautical fun all the way back to the St. Johns River, and then on into Jacksonville.

No matter where you are in the Jacksonville area, you’re never far away from a body of water and tons of fun things to do — so come on in, the water’s fine!
