The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex dry and moderate weather is usually mild enough for year-round outdoor activities. This makes it a golfer’s paradise, and dozens of neighborhoods are home to great golf courses. You’ll pay some of the higher home prices in the area to live close to the links, but for avid golfers, it’s worth it. Here is a look at some of the most popular golfing communities.

Close to Downtown

Many of the new home golf course communities built in the last 20 years in the Dallas/Fort Worth are in the suburbs, but two are within the Dallas and Fort Worth city limits, giving you a shorter commute if you work in the city center.

Castle Hills in North Dallas is a master-planned community that features a golf course. The garden homes section is the closest to the golf course, but larger homes are close by. Several home builders are building new and custom homes in the community. Prices start in the $300,000 range.

In Fort Worth, Mira Vista is home to many golfers. Located to the southwest in the Hulen area, the community features an 18-hole championship golf course with professional golfing staff available for lessons and to facilitate tournaments. Mira Vista is an established community, and homes on the market range from low $300,000 to $1.7 million.

Best of the ‘Burbs

Most of the Metroplex is made up of the suburbs of Dallas and Fort Worth, and the available land in those areas has made golfing communities plentiful. Suburbs like Allen, Richardson, and Farmer’s Branch are well known for their golf courses.

Plano, just a short drive north of Dallas, is home to several golfing communities. One of the most popular is Gleneagles, reputedly a golfer’s heaven. The community’s country club boasts 36 holes of championship golf designed by the famous team of Von Hagge and Devlin. Homes close to the golf course range from $450,000 to just under $800,000.

In Irving’s Las Colinas area, Hackberry Creek is known as the place for golfing. Its country club is home to an 18-hole golf course designed by Dallas’ own golfing legend, Byron Nelson. The bent-grass green championship course is almost 7,000 feet long and includes rolling hills, water features, and lots of sand for challenging play. Current home prices in Hackberry Creek can range from mid $200,000 to just over half a million.

Golf Course Communities Farther Afield

To take advantage of great schools, lower property costs, and a family-type atmosphere, many employees live in smaller towns within a one hour commute to the city. Golfing is also popular in these parts of northern Texas.

In McKinney, Stonebridge Ranch is considered one of the premier golfing neighborhoods. Opened in 1998, its 18-hole and 27-hole golf courses are older, but they were still voted one of the best golf courses in Texas by the Dallas Morning News in 2012. Homes in Stonebridge Ranch can range from close to $200,000 to almost half a million.

The small, but exploding community of Sachse to the far northeast of Dallas is home to Woodbridge Golf Course, a public course often played by northern Texas members of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA). The 18-hole golf course was rated four stars by Golf Digest and is considered perfect for golfers of all skill levels. Homes in Woodbridge range from almost $200,000 to close to half a million.
