Glamour: Sublime Defined

West Coast editor of Architectural Digest, Mayer Rus shares his definition of glamour in the latest edition of Previews® Inside Out.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but is the same true of glamour?

In the May edition, Previews® Inside Out recently sat down with Mayer Rus, West Coast editor of Architectural Digest, to discuss glamour both conceptually and tactically.

In this feature, titled Sublime Spaces: Conversation with an Architectural Digest Editor,” Rus shares his personal definition of “glamour.”  What’s more? He believes that this definition changes and evolves as new visionaries create fresh interpretations.

When asked how one can incorporate glamour into a space, Rus responds:

“It’s hard to give a prescription for importing glamour to a room. It has to arise organically from the inspired vision of a homeowner or designer.”

So, maybe it is true that glamour is in the eye of the beholder after all. What is glamorous to me–an integration of old and new world, mixing soft white linens, ambient lighting and lush window coverings with distressed wood pieces and industrial edges—might be quite the opposite of your taste. In “Sublime Spaces” Rus shares his list of “timeless” design elements that would bring glamour to any space.
