Pittsburgh Pirates’ Neil Walker Knows What It Means to Play at Home

Living and playing in his hometown has made Neil Walker’s home even more special to him.

On Little League fields across the country, you’ll find a collection of dreamers. And they all dream the same thing. Of hitting that game winning home run or throwing a no-hitter for their favorite team in front of the home crowd. I had that dream, but alas it wasn’t mean to be.

For Neil Walker though, he got to experience that dream coming true. On Opening Day of the 2014 season, Neil Walker hit a walk off home run for his hometown team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, in his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Dreams do come true.

As part of the Coldwell Banker Home Field Advantage video series with MLB.com, we got to visit the home of the Walkers and talk to the Pirates second basemen about what makes being home so special. It’s also a rarity to be in a home where two major leaguers have lived, as Neil’s dad was once a pitcher for the Montreal Expos.
