Where to go for a Miami Beach Workout

Whether you like to stay fit for health purposes, to have a great beach body, or a combination of both, there’s lots of different options to maintain an active lifestyle!

Miami Beach is definitely an active city, surrounded by water on all sides and constantly warmed by the bright South Florida sun. But whether you like to stay fit for health purposes, to have a great beach body, or a combination of both, there’s lots of different options to maintain an active lifestyle!

Beach Workouts

For starters, there’s nothing quite like exercising on the actual beach. You could go for a brisk walk or light jog and challenge your body by running on sand, you could go for a swim in the boundless ocean, especially warm this time of year, or you can do some calisthenics at Lumus Park (Ocean Dr from 5th-15th St). By working out outdoors, you also get the enhanced benefits of improving your mood, stress levels, self-esteem, and vitality. And best of all, exercising on the beach is completely free of charge!

Yoga

Speaking of improving your disposition, if you’ve never tried yoga or enjoy keeping up with your practice, head over to Green Monkey (1827 Purdy Ave) and find your inner peace while strengthening and stretching your body. This Zen studio offers a variety of classes tailored to all yogi levels, ranging from fast-paced Power Yoga to a more relaxing Slow Flow. No matter which you choose, the end results are all the same — you will feel stronger, more balanced, and will be better equipped to let go of things that no longer serve you!

Bootcamp

If you prefer a more intense fitness routine, however, Barry’s Bootcamp (1835 Purdy Ave) is the place for you. Tradeoff between high-intensity interval training on the treadmill and weightlifting exercises on the floor. Trainers often dim the lighting and raise the volume of the music to motivate their trainees, particularly during the strenuous sprint and burpee intervals. If you want to see results, and fast, then make a point to go to Barry’s at least 3 times a week and you’ll be shocked with the outcomes you’ll achieve!

Pilates

If you’re into something in between a yoga and a boot camp class, you should try JetSet Pilates (110 Washington Ave). JetSet offers a fusion of traditional Pilates, cardio, and strength training and consist of group classes on 8 custom-made Megaformers resistance-based body conditioning equipment. If you think Pilates is an easy workout, think again! JetSet will leave you sore, revitalized, and relaxed all at the same time.

Spinning

Are you into biking or spinning? Miami Beach is ideal for both. Whether you own your own bike or rent the readily available CitiBikes scattered throughout the city, you’ll surely enjoy biking along the beach or across the Venetian Island bridges. If you prefer the indoor experience, however, FlyWheel (1919 Purdy Ave) has arguably the best spinning studio in town. Ride to the rhythm of the high-energy music while doing interval training or the occasional upper-body exercises. The great part is that throughout your entire workout, you can track your performance on their app or if you’re more of the competitive type, you may choose to be ranked on the class’ TorqBoard!

Paddleboarding

Finally, there’s paddleboarding- a workout that’s somewhat unique to Miami Beach and other water-bearing cities. For the ultimate stand-up paddleboarding experience, head over to The Standard hotel (40 Island Ave) where you’ll paddle through beautiful islands on Biscayne Bay and take in the stunning view of the Miami skyline and the extraordinary nearby real estate. Not only can you do a regular paddleboarding session, but on one Saturday a month you can incorporate yoga into the mix! This two-hour workout perfectly combines fitness, spirituality, and nature into one harmonious activity that will leave you feeling stronger, both physically and mentally. Additionally, you’ll feel much more grounded and more in tune with your surroundings!

So regardless of the type of workout you enjoy most, whether you prefer to exercise indoors with air-conditioning or outdoors in the summer heat, there’s something for everyone in Miami Beach. Get out there, try something different, even if it pushes you out of your comfort zone because you know what they say — through resistance we grow stronger!
