The Making of ‘Somebody to Love’

A behind the scenes look at how we crafted our latest commercial, ‘Somebody to Love’ – a story about home, love and companionship.

A home is more than just the walls and the roof that surround us, it is about the people, pets and love that fill every square inch of it.

With 2015’s ‘Home’s Best Friend’ – we shed light on the love that waits for us inside while we go about our day outside of home. With our latest spot ‘Somebody to Love‘ – we shift to a singular story about a lonely man and dog who both need love.

Here’s a behind the scenes look at the making of ‘Somebody to Love’ and some interviews with key creatives who played a part in crafting our newest commercial.

Hi I am a retired Pasco County Commissioner in Pasco County Florida I was a commissioner for 20!years and a professor at PHSC for 26 years. . I have for a number of years been involved in our animal shelter. In 2012 our EU rate for dogs was 80 percent for cats few ever got out alive. I was able to make changes and now the shelter tries for an 80 percent release rate for dogs and 70 percent for cats. We do not alwYsreach this goal. I applaud your program to find dogs homes.

Until we have mandatory spay a neuter there will be many animals dumped in shelters both high kill and well managed. I have rescued many dogs and cats and at this time I have five chihuahuas, a 17 year old poodle and two smallish mutts. Chis are the second breed dumped in shelters. Although Pasco has a number of inovative programs, we still euthanize a number of healthy dogs. We utilize trustees from the sheriff’s office to walk dogs and clean cages five days a week. It is a win win program that I worked years to get and has been working well for three years.

We still need assistance. I applaud your ” find a home program.”
How could our shelter get involved. We have a lovely adoption center, a number of spree fields with agility posts, a dog trainer, an out reach person and a Tail Waggon adoption bus but we still need to get the word out and our dogs seen. Our shelter is located in Land o Lakes florida. You can con tact me for more info Pat 813 996 6783. Retired Commissioner Pat Mulieri. Thank you for listening.

Thank you for the heartwarming ad. I was wondering if the dog and man have a real relationship or is it just “acting.” Even if it is acting, I hope that the little dog has a real, loving home. I can only trust that you are being honest about this.

When I am ready to sell my house, I will go to Coldwell Bankers because of your commitment to helping save dogs.

Hi Kathy, Thank you so much for your comment! The dog, Scout, in the ad “Somebody to Love” is an adopted pup from a local LA shelter. She has a very loving home with other four-legged brothers and sisters, too. The man in the ad isn’t her dog dad, but they got along very well on set! We’re so happy to hear that you’ll consider working with a Coldwell Banker Real Estate agent on the sale of your home when the time is right. Please let us know if we can help put you in touch with a professional in your area when you’re ready. Best wishes to you!

My colleagues and i really enjoyed your ad “Somebody to Love”. We were curious of the backstory of the gentleman. Based on the bedside photo, How did he become alone? What happened?

    Curious in NYC

Theory #1: The couple had a terrible breakup over the purchase of a white couch to furnish their new house possibly acquired with the help of Coldwell banker. Once she leaves he attempts to fill the void with a dog. Upon coming home the man is amused by how the dog immediately finds such comfort in the aforementioned white couch, the very one that tore one relationship apart yet brought another one together.

I just LOVE this commercial! I am involved in horse rescue in Texas. I’ve helped over 250 of them & am the proud guardian to 3 beautiful senior horses. I really loved the small bit of the song that played. Is there any chance of it being released to the public? Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Christy, Thanks so much for your comment! The song was recorded specifically for this ad, so the clip you hear is all that exists. So happy you like it so much, though. Keep doing your great work helping our furry friends!

What a great commercial! My son did a Chase Manhattan commercial recently and every time I hear your song, I look for my son! The song by New Kids in the Chase commercial is very similar…emotionally charged. Beautiful!

You should put that original background song on iTunes and donate the proceeds to dog and cat adoptions – so many of us LOVE it and would love to download it, especially for a good cause!!!

Love the song, sorry it is only 30 seconds in length, and that no artist has stepped forward to take credit for the song.

Great job Coldwell Banker! I love this commercial. I also would love to make a donation through Itunes for the song, if it is ever completed. I was looking for it when I found you site. Thanks again for bringing attention to the many many animals that need loving homes. As someone that has rescued multiple pets over the years, I can attest to how they enrich your life like nothing else can.

I love this commercial. I adopted my terrier mix Betsy from our local humane society 6 years ago. Everyone asks what breed she is. I was surprised to see her “twin” on your commercial. Do you know any details about the dog’s breed? Keep up the good work!
