The unofficial start of summer has begun. You would love to just take the next 3 months off of work, but like the rest of us, you probably still have to work your Monday to Fridays and then some. A vacation planned here and there can help, but if you can’t get away, here are a few ideas for great New Jersey food-themed stay-cations. Because before you know it, the leaves are red, summer is gone and you missed out on so much.
To make the most of your summer, take advantage of all the fun festivities happening in your own state. Without having to spend and travel too much you can enjoy everything the Garden State has to offer. Typing my city and the word “festival” in the Google search bar and I was able to find everything from music to firefly festivals. There is something to do for everyone at any age. You can also go to www.festivals4fun.com to find other festivals in your area.
Here are 3 fun food festivals to check out this June:
Belmar Seafood Festival
I have attended the Belmar Seafood Festival in the past and it has left a lasting impression. The festivities will be at Silver Lake Park in Belmar on June 12-14. There are over 40 seafood vendors where you get to try everything from alligator meat, crab cakes and bacon wrapped scallops to lobster rolls. There are also fireworks on opening night so definitely take a drive down the Garden State Parkway and make it a memorable, belly-filling trip.
Bradley Beach Lobster Festival
I found that I don’t have to go to Maine for the Lobster Festival because there is one right here in Bradley Beach, NJ occurring June 27-28. There will be a DJ, band, beer garden and much more. Saving the 6 hour drive, a vacation day and hotel costs, you can enjoy the same thing Maine has to offer in our own backyard.
NJ Crab Festival
Another exciting festival is the NJ Crab Festival down in Wildwood, NJ. It will be on July 18th at the Ice House. I have gone to Maryland in the past for their crab festivals, but this year I may have to make a visit to Wildwood. It would be a great change of scenery and definitely closer to home. You can find more information at www.njcrabfestivalicehouse.com.
