How to Create an Inviting Master Bedroom

The master bedroom has more influence in selling your home than you might think.

When prospective buyers walk into a master bedroom, they are looking for a room that’s inviting, spacious, bright, elegant and comfortable. Staging this key room to create those feelings is just as important as the kitchen and bath in getting your property sold timely and for asking price. Before listing your home this fall, set the stage to wow buyers with our tips below for choosing the right colors, accessories and lighting for your master bedroom.

Color
Select modern colors in soft grays, blues, greens and whites for walls to create a serene and calm backdrop. Then add pops of bright hues in accents such as rugs, wall art and pillows for subtle contrast and fresh style.

Simplify
As in any calm, spa-like setting, the key to creating spaciousness is to simplify by removing clutter. Remove personal items as well as bulky, unnecessary furniture that will only distract buyers from seeing the room’s full potential. Be sure there is plenty of walking space, windows aren’t blocked and that closets and dressers are well organized.

Light It Up
Switch out all outdated lamps and fixtures with modern ones for instant elegance. Matching table or wall lamps on each side of the bed, hanging pendants or a floor lamp for the sitting area are all great options that add both style and function. Be sure windows are framed with soft, neutral curtains or blinds that coordinate with the wall color and won’t block the natural light from brightening the room.

An Inviting Bed
The bed should be the focal point of the room so the more luxurious and inviting, the better. Layer a fluffy bright white comforter or duvet with a quilt, ultra-soft throw, plenty of colorful accent pillows and a tailored bed skirt to complete the style. If you don’t already have a headboard, it’s worth the investment to give the finishing touch to tie the look together.

Simple Accessories
One of our favorite touches for the bedroom is a white floral orchid for the dresser or a large green floor plant in the corner by the window. These simple, organic touches soften the room and add to the peaceful, calm mood. Pair with a candle and an organic figurine to complete the vignette and you’re all set!
