Are your kids feeling restless? It’s time for an expedition!

Our guide to the best kid friendly activities in Dallas has something for everyone.

Explore Klyde Warren Park

Klyde Warren Park is a unique green space built over the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. Round up your family and spend the day!

You’ll find activities for every age, from a colorful playground and splash pad to ping pong tables. The park’s schedule is packed with free activities, including live music and movie nights. There’s also plenty of space to run free.

Feeling hungry? Check out one of the food trucks or on-site restaurants.

Spend a Day at the Museum

One of our favorite kid friendly activities in Dallas is exploring the city’s many museums.

Encourage your child’s sense of wonder at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Check out the Dallas Museum of Art’s collection of masterpieces, then wander around its outdoor sculpture garden. Older kids will appreciate learning about the JFK assassination at The Sixth Floor Museum.

Learn about the Dallas history at the Old Red Museum or step back in time at Dallas Heritage Village.

Explore Pioneer Plaza

For a laid-back activity in downtown Dallas, head to Pioneer Plaza near the convention center. Oversize bronzed statues of three cowboys wrangling a large herd of longhorn steers are this park’s highlight. There’s also a small pond where you can feed ducks (bring bread), and the adjacent Pioneer Cemetery holds the graves of the city’s founding fathers.

Grab lunch at the nearby Omni Hotel. Just outside the hotel, you’ll find four restaurants with fare ranging from pizza to Tex Mex. Make sure to take a family photo under the giant, rotating Pegasus after lunch!

Head Outside

Dallas is full of outdoor activities for cooped up kids.

Walk or bike the Katy Trail, then stop into the Katy Trail Ice House for BBQ and dog watching. Pack a picnic and head to White Rock Lake for over nine miles of trails, beautiful views of downtown Dallas, playgrounds, and more. You’ll enjoy the flowers, and your kids will enjoy the activities (music, scavenger hunts, and more) at the Dallas Arboretum. Visit during August to take advantage of Dollar Days!

Take the McKinney Avenue Trolley

One of our favorite kid friendly activities in Dallas is riding the McKinney Avenue Trolley — it’s free and fun!

Each of the M-Line’s vintage trolleys has a different name and story (look for signs inside the cars to learn more). Ride the trolley 365 days a year from Downtown Dallas to Uptown and back again!

Watch Wildlife at the Dallas Zoo

The Dallas Zoo, home to over 2,000 animals and 400 species, is a perennial favorite with adults and kids of all ages.

Kids will love checking out everything from giant elephants to tiny insects. The zoo also features an expansive range of activities from train rides to overnight photo safaris.

Visit the Dallas Farmers Market

When is the last time you’ve been to the Dallas Farmers Market? It has a whole new look that your kids will love exploring.

You’ll find two buildings here: The Market (open daily), a food hall and artisanal vendor market; and The Shed (open Friday through Sunday), featuring seasonal produce from local farmers. Explore the shops and grab a bite to eat in The Market (we especially love La Ventana and Nammi), then head to The Shed to stock up on fresh veggies, mouthwatering pastries, local honey, and more. When you’re done, take your finds home to cook a family feast!
