Summer is here, and it’s time to enjoy a meal outside! Here are five popular NYC outdoor restaurants to try when you’re sick of staying in.
The Biergarten at The Standard
Spend a laid back day enjoying beer and German food at The Biergarten. Located under the High Line, this huge, open air space is the perfect spot for people watching. Grab a picnic table with your friends and order a huge stein of beer, a sausage plate, or a giant pretzel. You’ll also find ping pong tables and pub games to keep you entertained.
The Biergarten is always packed and can get loud, especially on summer weekends. Why not play hooky from work and enjoy the more low key afternoon scene?

Barbuto
Step into Barbuto, where you’ll find a sophisticated, yet casual space with garage-style walls that open on warm days creating an open-air space.
The wood-burning brick oven churns out all sorts of rustic Italian bites. Chef Jonathan Waxman is especially known for his roasted chicken, but the pasta dishes are winners, too.
Barbuto is great any time of day, but we especially like it for a relaxing brunch or lunch.
Jack’s Wife Frieda
Looking for a meal that’s homey, affordable, and tastes amazing? Stop by Jack’s Wife Frieda!
Service is first come, first served (unless you have a group of six or more), so be aware that you will most likely face a long line. It’s worth waiting for dishes like Green Shakshuka or a refreshing Cantaloupe Mimosa.
Jack’s Wife Freda is small, so outdoor tables are at a prime!
Mulberry Project
Enjoy a custom-crafted cocktail at Mulberry Project, another great NYC outdoor restaurant.
Head through an unmarked door in Little Italy and walk straight out to the back yard patio. There’s different theme each year, and this summer’s is La Isla Escondida. Enjoy a fun, garden atmosphere surrounded by art created by NYC street artists.
Once ensconced on the patio, you can imbibe fun frozen drinks and pitchers of bespoke cocktails, as well as Mulberry Project’s full menu. It’s the perfect place to while away an afternoon.
La Birreria
Located 14 floors above Eataly, La Birreria is the perfect hangout on a balmy evening.
Along with sweeping skyline views, you’ll find three unfiltered, unpasteurized, and naturally carbonated cask ales that are brewed just 30 feet from where you sit. There’s also a full menu of wine, draft and bottled beers, and ciders to be sampled.
Tuck into a full menu of hearty and delicious Italian fair with inspiration from Austrian and German cuisine, too.
