10 Things to Do with Kids in NYC This November

Here are 10 fun things to do with kids in NYC this November! Head to the park, walk the High Line, catch the circus, enjoy holiday events and parades, do something fun that’s for a good cause, and more much more!

Winter’s not here yet — so gather the kids and step on out of your NYC home and enjoy the fall! Here are 10 fun things to do with kids in NYC this November.

1. Head to the Park

Make the most of warm days and head to the park. Explore a new trail, collect colorful leaves, and pick up acorns! Use these treasures to make mobiles, place cards for a family dinner (write on leaves with markers), or turn acorns into mini people. You can even preserve leaves with Mod Podge.

2. Check Out One-of-a-Kind Art

Bring a can of food to enter, then watch teams build giant displays out of canned food during Canstruction, running November 5–16. You’ll be amazed by the astounding structures, and at the end of the competition, the food is donated to City Harvest.

3. See the Circus

Who doesn’t love the circus? It’s one of the best things to do with kids in NYC.

On November 8, catch The National Circus and Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China perform award-winning acts like the Grand Flying Trapeze, Group Contortion, and Straw Hats Juggling!

The Big Apple Circus will leave your kids smiling, too! Set is the 1920s, it features clowns, acrobats, and aerialists from around the world. On November 17, see a special autism-friendly show.

4. Walk the High Line

November is a great time to walk the High Line. Choose a warm day and enjoy the mix of nature and city life while your kids burn off some energy.

When you’re done, warm up with a slice at Artichoke Basille’s (10 Avenue and 14th Street) or grab a hot cocoa from Blue Bottle (15th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues).

5. Seek Out Treasures

A treasure hunt is surely one of the most fun things to do with kids in NYC! On November 1, grab a map guide, compete in trivia games, and win a prize during Central Park’s Zoo Quest.

Then on November 14, discover the secrets of Randall’s Island while learning to use a map and compass. You’ll earn a treasure at the end!

6. Enjoy Nature Indoors

Relish balmy 80 degree temperatures and be amazed by hundreds of free-flying butterflies in the American Museum of Natural History’s Butterfly Conservatory.

While you’re there, visit Spiders Alive and come face-to-face with the worlds largest collection of live spiders. Starting November 7, explore The Secret World Inside You to learn about the germs that live inside and outside your body.

7. Shop for Holiday Gifts at a Seasonal Fair

Get a head start on holiday shopping at one of New York’s many seasonal fairs.

Kids love choosing unique gifts at these fairs, which arrive mid-November. Our favorites are found at Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park, and Columbus Circle.

8. Catch a Parade

There are two great parades to see this November. On November 11, spend Veterans Day watching service people and marching bands head up Fifth Avenue. Later in the month, nab a spot along the 2.5 mile Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route.

9. Celebrate Cranksgiving

Celebrate Cranksgiving with your older kids on November 21! This unique event is part bike ride, part food drive, and part scavenger hunt and benefits hundreds of needy families.

10. Kick Off the Holiday Season

Finally, enjoy the 16th Annual Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square on November 30. The evening begins with the lighting of the Upper West Side Holiday Tree, then neighborhood sidewalks come alive with music, jugglers, stilt-walkers, and more during a festive, fun-filled evening!

    Ginnie,

Great job in depicting the many things to do in NYC in November. I know that there is much to do in the city but you wrote about many things to do that I would have otherwise not known about.
