Although the Bronx Zoo may be the most famous of zoos in New York City, it is just one of five of the Wildlife Conservation Society Zoos that makes New York City their home. Spring in New York is a wonderful chance to take a step into a beautiful zoo setting for sharing a day among amazing animals. The Bronx Zoo will give you an escape to another country as you travel to the African Plains and Madagascar. Making the center of Manhattan home base is the Central Park Zoo, neatly nestled in the lovely park and near museums. By the beach in Coney Island, sea lions are the star of the show at the Aquarium. For a more intimate zoo adventure, take a trip to the Prospect Zoo in Brooklyn and the Queens Zoo, both great to keep the little ones entertained without overtiring. Take advantage of each of the zoos’ children’s areas and petting zoos to experience a hands-on adventure.

The High Line

High above New York City is a wonderful park lining the West Side. Built on a rotting and long forgotten rail line eyesore, the High Line brought to life the once ugly structure. Walking high above street level, you can stroll from West 34th St., between 10th and 12th Avenues, all the way to Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District without stopping for traffic or lights. Food carts allow for a snack among beautiful landscaping of blooming greenery ripe for spring in New York. High-powered telescopes provided by the Amateur Astronomers Association allow for night star gazing and romantic interludes. Other activities include poetry walks, tours and art exhibits, and performances commissioned by the High Line.
