Philadelphians are lucky to be within driving distance of a number of beautiful beaches, including Rehoboth Beach, Cape May, and the Jersey Shore. But if you really love the beach, bring it to your new home in Philly by incorporating it into your decor. The best rooms to focus on are your bathroom and den, since you probably spend a lot of time there relaxing. Here are some simple and beautiful beach decor ideas for your home.

Flooring the Color of Sand

What’s the first thing that you probably do when you get to the beach? You take off your shoes and dig your feet in the warm sand. You can simulate this experience in your home by getting light brown (sand-colored) shag carpeting. Choose a soft material that feels like heaven between your toes and install the thickest, plushest possible padding underneath. Another option to consider is butternut or holly hardwood flooring, which closely resembles the appearance of sand (or the boardwalk), with a plush ocean blue area rug at the edge of the room (like a shoreline).

Sea Green or Seafoam Colored Walls

If you look out onto the horizon of a beach at a certain time of day, you’ll notice that it’s a beautiful light bluish-green color. You’ll also find this gorgeous color close to the shore. Sea green, also called seafoam, is a great color for your walls if you’re looking to add beach-inspired decor to your home. Green is a color of balance, rest, and contemplation according to color theory, so it’s a perfect pick for your bathroom or den.

Beach Accents

The next time you go to the beach, bring a bit of it home with you to use when decorating your home. Fill a mason jar with sand from each of your favorite beaches and adorn the lid with ribbons, pearls, and the line (marine rope) that boaters use. Place your sand jar collection in various rooms of your home for decoration. Gather the prettiest seashells you can find as well for lining your shelves and display cases. If you’re crafty, try making a wind chime out of seashells. Purchase more creative treasures that remind you of the beach at tourist shops during your trips.

Adding beach decor ideas to your home is a fun ongoing project that may take some time to complete. You’ll know you’re heading in the right direction when you come home and almost hear the gentle sounds of the sea blowing through your rooms.
