The spring is commonly associated with newness and rebirth while the fall is a time of transition. What’s really amazing about the fall season in a Northeastern city like Philadelphia is the intense explosion of color outside that makes your yard look a lot like a work of art. One simple way to pay homage to the fall season in your Philly home is to add fall table decorations to your dining room table or another highly visible table in your house.
The Centerpiece
When you’re decorating a table, the first item to focus on is the centerpiece. You can then work from the center, adding more and more accouterments. For your centerpiece, get a bowl or oblong plate with a matte colored finish in orange, brown, or green for the center of the table. Next add items that instantly remind you of fall to the bowl or plate, like pine cones, leaves, and tiny pumpkins, in an attractive arrangement. You might also choose to purchase an authentic looking cornucopia horn for the centerpiece and fill it with fall fruit and vegetables.

Tablecloth and Plate Settings
Your plate setting is the next important element of your fall table decor. First, pick a simple cotton tablecloth that’s a solid shade of mauve, squash, or apricot. Find small plates that are decorated with images of outdoor fall scenery like trees, branches, leaves, and acorns. Get an equal number of large plates in a solid shade of maroon, brown, or your favorite dark fall color. Create the place setting by putting a large solid-colored plate as the base, then placing the smaller decorative plate on top. Finish off the plate setting with a white or light tan folded napkin on top.
DIY Mason Jar Center Pieces
There are so many great uses for mason jars. Besides storing food, they’re also nice for decoration. Find a few clear mason jars with gold-colored lids. Pick up the best whole leaves of different sizes and colors that you can find around your property. Apply glue (Mod Podge is recommended) to the back of each leaf and carefully adhere them to the jars in an attractive pattern. Fill the jar with small pine cones, acorns, or faux red apples.
Your table is sure to get a few comments from guests when you add these simple fall table decorations in your Philly home. Remember to keep the color scheme as consistent as possible and to pick a table cloth that will make an ideal “canvas” for your work of art.
