Nestled along the sun-kissed Costa del Sol, Estepona is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Home to the Coldwell Banker Art Real Estate office, this coastal town offers a perfect blend of beachside relaxation and vibrant local culture. With a rich history, influenced by Moorish culture, the Andalusian town sets itself apart from its neighbors, through history, cuisine, and stunning beaches. Estepona is a food lover’s paradise, known for its Mediterranean dishes and variety of tapas. Dolores Lasala, broker/owner of Coldwell banker Art, describes it best: “Estepona is one of the most charming corners of the Costa del Sol. Unlike other wonderful destinations such as Marbella, Estepona has managed to preserve its Andalusian essence with its streets full of flowers, cozy squares and an old town that does not leave you indifferent. It is a good destination if you are looking for a quiet place, with a special climate and good gastronomy.” Visitors can enjoy early morning trips to the beach, indulging in “espetos” – charcoal-grilled sardines on skewers, a beloved local delicacy.

The Mediterranean sun, crystal-clear waters, and chic beach clubs provide an ideal setting for a leisurely vacation. And beyond the summer months, Estepona boasts a variety of leisure activities, from hiking in the Sierra de las Nieves to exploring UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Alhambra in Granada.

Victor García Ohlrich, Sales Director, adds, “For me Estepona really ticks all the boxes, from morning to night, from summer to winter.” Ohlrich continues, “Whether you are looking to spend time on the beach, have a stroll along the lovely promenade, explore the attractive marina or visit the Old Town with its plethora of quaint bars, chic restaurants and shops, Estepona leaves nothing to be desired.”

Known as “The Garden of the Costa del Sol,” Estepona’s exceptional location, heritage, and perfect climate make it one of the fastest-growing areas. Come and experience the magic of this enchanting coastal town!

Where do you live? Estepona, Málaga, Spain

What is the perfect weekend day like? A perfect summer weekend would begin with an early morning trip to the beach, where you can indulge in “espetos” (charcoal-grilled sardines on skewers), a beloved dish from the Málaga region. You can easily spend the whole day soaking up the sun, swimming in the crystal-clear Mediterranean waters, doing all kinds of water sports, lounging at one of the chic beach clubs lining the shore, or savoring the tempting dishes served at the local chiringuitos. As the evening sets in, enjoy a refreshing pre-dinner cocktail at one of Estepona’s trendy bars, before heading to a top restaurant for an unforgettable fine dining experience, offering both exquisite local and international cuisine.

Outside the hot summer months of July and August, this coastal region offers numerous opportunities for leisure activities. One of the many unique features of this area is that it combines both the beauty of the beach and the sea with the stunning mountain panorama of the Sierra Bermeja in the background. For hiking enthusiasts, the famous Sierra de las Nieves in the Ronda region is a great option. Bikers and mountain bikers will absolutely enjoy the long winding roads across the mountainside. In addition, excursions to world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Alhambra in Granada, Córdoba, or the nearby Málaga, with its historic old town and elegant harbor, are definitely worth it. To the east of Estepona, along the coast, you’ll reach Tarifa – a popular destination for kitesurfers. The Caribbean-like beaches with fine white sand and the fascinating blend of the Mediterranean and Atlantic make Tarifa a truly unique travel destination.

What are the common modes of transportation there? Mainly by private car, taxi, rental cars, UBER, BOLT, etc. but also public transport (the buses are very efficient and at the same time convenient and inexpensive). A nice touch and an enjoyable experience is the catamaran that connects the Marbella marina with Puerto Banús.

Tell us about the foods your area is known for. “Espetos” (fish skewers), Mediterranean dishes, like the famous Paella, Gambas al ajillo (shrimps in garlic oil), Gazpacho (cold vegetable soup), a very refreshing light dish in summer, and, of course, the general range of cold and warm tapas, including croquetas, Chorizo al vino, Pimientos del Padrón (grilled green peppers with sea salt), Ensaladilla (potatoe salad with tuna, egg etc.), Tortilla española (potatoe omlett), to name a few. Andalusia is the heart of Spain, boasting everything you always associated with it – Flamenco, great food, endless beaches, clear blue sea, friendly people, stunning sunrises and sunsets, marvellous architecture, and a large selection of modern and traditional properties where you will easily find your dream home.

What is your favourite meal, at home or at a restaurant? I actually like both – you can always buy good ingredients at the local shops, markets or supermarkets, but I also enjoy eating out very much, whether I only want a few bites to keep up my strength or whether I like to go with my partner or friends to a posh or typical restaurant to enjoy a long evening of fine food and good conversations.

Where do you recommend someone vacation in your region and why? It all depends on the individual’s preferences – whether they seek peace and tranquility or prefer an active holiday. The Estepona area caters to both desires. It boasts over 21 km of pristine sandy beaches, alongside a charming, traditional old Andalusian town. A beautiful, scenic promenade stretches to the delightful harbor, offering a perfect setting for a leisurely stroll. Additionally, the surrounding area presents ample opportunities for exploration, whether by car, bike, or on foot, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region.

What is your favourite recreational or leisure time activity?  Wind surfing, mountain biking, hiking, tennis, golf, horse riding (there is a great riding course right in the Estepona area) etc.

Is there a specialty your area is known for? This region is not only a destination for beach lovers and shopping enthusiasts, but also a paradise for sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. The area is especially renowned for its golf courses, which are among the best in Europe, boasting not only top-tier conditions, but the surrounding nature offers excellent opportunities for hiking and excursions.

Share a little known but interesting fact about the area/region: Estepona is one of the fastest growing areas of the Costa del Sol, Málaga because of its exceptional location, various services and perfect climate. It is also known as “The Garden of the Costa del Sol”.

If you were to live in any other region where we have a Coldwell Banker presence, where would it be and why? Madrid is a vibrant city that seamlessly blends modern allure with timeless charm. It offers everything one could possibly dream of, yet still retains a captivating, traditional essence that makes it truly unforgettable.
