The possibility of life on Mars has been discussed for centuries and it may become reality in a mere 10 years. In fact, this week The Telegraph reported “Martian rocks from a crater hit by a meteorite may contain the strongest evidence yet that there is life on Mars.”
One would assume the first humans to have the opportunity settle on Mars would be exclusive to the mega wealthy or insanely smart but that’s not the case. Anyone over the age of 18 on planet Earth can now apply if they meet the basic requirements set by Mars One. The selection process will begin during the first half of 2013 but keep in mind…it’s a one-way trip for all involved: Once on Mars, there’s no coming back.
Mars One is a nonprofit organization based in the Netherlands that intends to establish a human settlement on Mars in 2023. Mars One intends to fund this decade-long endeavor by involving the whole world as the audience of an interactive, televised broadcast of every aspect of this mission, from astronaut selections to the arrival on Mars and their lives on the Red Planet. Can you imagine the tweeting that will take place?! #ICANTWAIT
While this once in a lifetime opportunity sounds incredible I like my home on Planet Earth just fine. What about you?
