3 Benefits of Crate Training Your New Puppy
Bringing a new puppy home is a lot of work. A crate can help ease the transition, not only for your dog, but for your home and furniture, too!
With all this talk about Home’s Best Friend and our upcoming National Adoption Weekend in collaboration with Adopt-a-Pet.com, we’ve had pups on the brain! If you’re thinking about bringing a furry friend into your home, there’s always an adjustment period when it comes to training and getting your dog acclimated to his or her new life in your home. Here are some of the benefits of crate training:
It Gives Your Dog a Safe Space
When your dog comes home for the first time, he or she may take a few weeks to adjust to the new surroundings. By establishing the crate as their very own space, they will start to see it as a place of comfort. Encourage your dog to go into the crate by making it comfortable with blankets, toys, and treats. The crate should never be a place where you send your dog for punishment!
It Doubles as a Car Seat
While crates are useful within the walls of your home, it also is a safe way to transport your pup in the car. Your dog should always be secured when traveling – even if you’re just running a quick errand!
It Protects Your Home & Furniture
Puppies have a lot to learn in their first few months – house training, simple commands, and how to walk properly on a leash. During this learning period, patience is a virtue – your new puppy can’t possibly learn all of this overnight. To protect your pillows, furniture, and anything else in your house your puppy can’t wait to gnaw on, the crate comes in handy when you can’t be there to monitor your dog’s every move.
