4 Fall Decorating Ideas for Your NYC Apartment

Fall is a beautiful season in NYC. And it's the perfect time to make your living space beautiful, too. Some fall decorating ideas for your NYC apartment include using cozy textures, warm scents, and a splash of orange.

Fall is a beautiful season in NYC. Why not bring some of that crisp autumnal sensibility into your decor? Here are some fall decorating ideas for your NYC apartment.

1. Get Organized

With a fresh new season comes a fresh new start, and fall is no exception. The weather’s changing, school’s back in session, and it’s time for a clean slate and a new beginning. Now is a great time to clean out your apartment and donate unused items. Pack away summer’s sundresses, skirts, and tank tops, and pull out your favorite riding boots, jeans, and autumn jackets. Get your closet organized and donate any clothing that didn’t get a lot of use over the summer, rather than just packing it away to take up space.

2. Refresh Your Decor with Old Favorites

When it comes to fall decorating ideas, start by using what you already have! Pull out your favorite cozy blankets, textured throws, and wintery throw pillows that you put away for the warm-weather months. On top of your bedsheets, you can layer a light cotton blanket and your duvet, and then fold a textured throw blanket up at the foot of the bed for an extra-cozy accent. Those layers will come in handy when the nights start to turn chilly in late September and October.

3. Add Scented Candles

Along with autumn comes a host of seasonal flavors and scents that you can bring into your space to evoke that fall vibe. Buy yourself a few new scented candles to spruce up your apartment for fall. Pumpkin spice, apple, and something warm like cinnamon are sure to put you in the fall spirit. You can also bring more subtle scents into your home that aren’t a specific fall-themed scent, but rather just smell warm or spicy (as opposed to light or floral) to complement the cooler season.

4. Infuse Your Space with Fall Accents

With fall approaching, it can be nice to change up the colors in your space a bit. If you’re in the market for some new decor, look for warm, deep, or rich colors. Orange is a popular color in interior design, and fall is a perfect time to incorporate the hue into your home. Not only is orange a color that brings to mind autumn pumpkin harvests and changing leaves, but it’s also a glamorous color that evokes sophistication (think Hermès boxes). Try a few white-trimmed orange lacquer boxes for an upscale touch of orange (and a handy storage item!). An orange throw blanket is a perfect accessory for autumn — and budget-friendly, too! Keep in mind that orange and gray pair well together and create a modern look often used by interior designers.
