Public Transportation in Dallas-Fort Worth

Along with DFW’s network of highways and toll roads, public transportation is a viable option for those who need to travel throughout the Metroplex. In addition to bus and rail lines’ convenience and dependability, public transit is also affordable.

For many, public transportation is a necessity for commuting to work and traveling throughout the Metroplex. With millions of commuters on the road each morning and evening, downtown and urban areas throughout Dallas, Fort Worth, and nearby business districts in outlying areas heavily rely on public transportation as a means to assist locals and visitors. The DART bus system, the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), and Fort Worth’s Transportation Authority, commonly known as “The T” help provide reliable and affordable means of transportation to nearly every major area of DFW. Each of these transportation systems offers easy-to-use passes that can be purchased at stations and online along with one-time fares and daily rates.

DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit)

Operating throughout Dallas and 11 surrounding cities such as Carrollton, Garland and Plano, the DART transportation system services a 700-square mile area. Including buses along with 64 DART rail stations, this transit system assists over 220,000 commuters every day. In addition to helping Dallas area workers commute, DART also provides transit to venues such as the American Airlines Center, convention centers, downtown hot spots and nearby airports. To view bus schedules and routes, visit DART’s official website.

TRE (Trinity Railway Express)

Serving passengers commuting to and from Dallas or Fort Worth, the TRE is a rail line that extends from Dallas Union Station to Fort Worth’s T&P station. Since the TRE connects Dallas and Fort Worth by rail, it is especially helpful to commuters in Irving, Arlington, and Richland Hills. Commuters enjoy bypassing traffic and construction on highways and major streets along with WiFi access when traveling. To view a map of TRE stops, click here.

The T

The T was created in 1983 to serve residents of Fort Worth and the surrounding communities. On average, Fort Worth’s Transportation Authority helps 9 million commuters and travelers annually. Serving all of Tarrant County, buses run daily on 42 routes throughout the area with easy access to the TRE rail and Dallas’ DART bus lines. Visit the T’s official website for more information about routes and fares.

Park and Ride Stations

For commuters with vehicles who live outside of public transit service areas, many stations and mass transit centers offer park and ride facilities. Park and ride facilities are available for a fixed-fee throughout Dallas and Fort Worth’s transportation services areas. Many locals enjoy shortening their daily commutes significantly with reliable and dependable transportation.

Along with DFW’s network of highways and toll roads, public transportation is a viable option for those who need to travel throughout the Metroplex. In addition to bus and rail lines’ convenience and dependability, public transit is also affordable.
