Ready for some fun spring activities in Philadelphia? Put away your snow shovels and get out and enjoy the sunshine. Here are eight spring events happening in and around the city.
Take a Mural Arts Tour
Philadelphia’s mural arts tour highlights the city’s largest paintings, often taking up the entire side of a building. The tours begin in the spring and run through the fall. Choose your method of transportation and view impressive displays of art on foot, via train, trolley, or Segway. Knowledgeable guides will show you some of the most spectacular murals in the city and tell you about the stories behind these stunning works of art.
Center City Jazz Festival
April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and Philadelphia is a great place to celebrate this form of music. The one-day Center City Jazz Festival takes place at four separate venues, all within walking distance of Center City and highlights talented jazz musicians.
Get Nerdy
Embrace your inner geek at the Philadelphia Science Festival, taking place in late April. Join in the fun by attending a stargazing party on Astronomy night or a kid-friendly after school science demonstration at neighborhood libraries. Events are posted on social media using the hashtag #GetNerdyPHL. The festival ends with a spring Science Carnival on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, offering over 175 free interactive exhibitions and experiments.
Welcome Spring in South Philadelphia
The weather may still be chilly when the Phillies kick off their season in April, but thousands of fans still journey to Citizens Bank Park to enjoy an early game. If you’re not a baseball fan, there’s still plenty of activities in and around the Sports Complex in spring, including the Kentucky Derby viewing party at the XFinity Live center.
Devon Horse Show
Taking place in late May, The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair is the largest multi-breed horse show in the United States. Spectators can watch the competitions or tour the country fair which offers plenty of food, fun, and family friendly entertainment. This is your best chance to see some of the most beautiful breeds of horses up close, but you need not be an equestrian expert to enjoy the show.
Get in Tune with Nature
One of the best spring activities in Philadelphia is a visit to the Morris Arboretum to see the beautiful spring blooms. While you’re there, your kids can play in their amazing tree house, situated 50 feet above ground. The design includes a huge canopy where you can recline and experience the feeling living in a real bird’s nest.
Shake off your winter doldrums and enjoy the return of warm weather by participating in one of the many fun spring-themed activities in Philadelphia. And remember, spring is also a great time for house hunting, so if you’re thinking of moving to the city, check out what’s currently available for sale.
