  1. We added solar hot water heating for our pool using a rooftop system, plus a two-chamber compost setup and an organic garden (for the finished compost of course).  When we remodeled our first floor we incorporated all LED recessed lighting plus high-efficiency halogens.  There’s more detailed stuff but I can say that a little research does pay off!

  2. Look around your property for ways to replace the things you use (lights, trash, drinking water, even veggies) with more sustainable options – such as locally grown or produced foods, energy-efficient, preservative and chemical-free items.  Read labels!  just knowing what’s IN the things your family consumers may blow your mind and get you researching simple alternatives.  This is what we’ve done to get started.
