What is the perfect weekend day like there? 

The perfect weekend here is all about enjoying the lake at its best: taking a scenic walk along the waterfront, renting a taxi boat and being whisked away to one of the charming lakeside villages for a delightful lunch paired with a glass of excellent wine. You can then spend the afternoon swimming at one of the many beach clubs before heading back in the evening and stopping for an aperitif while admiring the sunset over the lake. For those who enjoy a more active experience, there are also numerous beautiful hiking and trekking trails to explore, offering breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains. 

How do people move around the area? 

The best way is via ferry boat, then we usually use private car or taxi. Buses are rarely used by locals and are mostly used by tourists.  

Tell us about the foods your area is known for. 

You can have all the typical Italian food like pasta, pizza, meat and fish dishes. Typical of the area are traditional lake fish dishes. 

What is your favorite meal in your region? 

My favorite dish is any seafood dish, as I prefer fish from the sea rather than from the lake both at home and at the restaurant. 

Where do you recommend someone vacation in your region, and why? 

I would recommend staying in Como, as it is the largest and most vibrant city on the lake, offering the widest range of attractions, restaurants, shops, and services. It also serves as the perfect base for exploring the many charming villages scattered along the shores of Lake Como, all of which are easily accessible by ferry, boat, or car. 

What is your favorite recreational or leisure activity in your region? 

Enjoying a good spritz aperitif with a stunning lake view or a dinner with friends.  

Is there a specialty your region is known for? 

Lake Como is best known for its stunning scenery, historic lakeside villas, and luxury hospitality. Many people are surprised to learn that Lake Como has been a favorite destination for aristocrats, artists and writers for centuries. Many of them built magnificent villas around the lake as summer residences, and to this day, several of these historic properties are still owned by prominent figures who are drawn to the area’s unique combination of privacy, tranquility and “La Dolce Vita” style. The region has been always famous for its silk industry, which has been a symbol of Como’s craftsmanship and excellence for centuries.

A little-known fact about Lake Como is its distinctive upside down “Y” shape formed by ancient glaciers that let it reach depths of over 400 meters, making it one of the deepest lakes in Europe. Furthermore, there are also many legends, historical events, and literary works inspired by the area. One of the most famous examples is The Betrothed (I Promessi Sposi) by Alessandro Manzoni, whose story is set around the eastern branch of the lake. Another fascinating chapter of local history is the Battle of Comacina Island, a medieval conflict that is still commemorated every year with a spectacular historical celebration featuring fireworks and reenactments on the lake.

If I could live in another area where Coldwell Banker is present, I would choose a seaside destination such as the Amalfi Coast or Sardinia. Both offer breathtaking landscapes, crystal-clear waters, an exceptional lifestyle, and a unique blend of Mediterranean charm. Good food, good sun, and good people.
