With boundless beauty it’s easy living in Redding, California, and it’s just a couple of hours away from the Oregon state line. Known as the jewel of the North State, Redding is home to Shasta Lake as well as Whiskeytown Lake, the Sacramento River, and many other waterways, making it a popular vacation destination.

Fun Times for Visitors and Locals Alike

During the summer, Interstate 5 is busy with bumper-to-bumper traffic hauling families with boats and water toys to enjoy a vacation of fun in the sun in the Redding area. For a time, the locals living in Redding endure the extra traffic and agree to share their favorite fishing holes in trade for the bounty that tourism brings to the area.

Once school starts, the traffic dies down and Redding once again belongs mostly to the locals. By then, the lakes stand quietly empty with water still as glass. On the weekends, local families living in Redding enjoy picnics and boating or fishing. But during the weekdays, you could paddle all around, in and out of coves and never see another person.

Natural Beauty Surrounds

When summer begins to ebb, fall peaks in with splashes of color everywhere. All along the country roads one can find dogwood trees and crepe myrtle, lavender, and oleanders.

Just outside Redding are forests of deer and bear. There are signs warning travelers where these animals are known to be. Even though they frequently cross the roads and can cause accidents, there’s nothing as breathtaking as the sight of a deer with a majestic rack of antlers crossing the road in front of you.

A Climate of Easy Living

Spring brings the sunshine that contributes to the area being named number two in the nation for the most sunshine. For a few weeks in summer, temperatures can be extreme, but the lakes are only 15 minutes from town. “Summertime and the living is easy” could be a song written about living in Redding. As soon as you hit the Shasta County line, there is no mistaking the change of pace. Cows are grazing in the lavender fields, cars are going slower, and Mt. Shasta nearly slaps you in the face.

Through all seasons majestic Mt. Shasta is the back-drop of Redding with an inescapable view. Snow pack lasts year round but when winter brings new snow fall, snowboarders and skiers come from everywhere to enjoy the challenge of hiking, boarding, or skiing this beautiful giant.

Redding real estate is still a California bargain. Besides the affordability factor, there are many styles of living to choose from. Mountainside, countryside, or waterfront, it’s only minutes to downtown Redding. If you’re looking for easy living with a slower pace, visit Redding.
