Five Stay-at-Home Date Night Ideas for Philly Dwellers

Having a great date doesn't necessarily mean you have to go out on the town. There are plenty of fun dates that you can enjoy with your sweetie right in the comfort of your own home. Here are some great date night ideas to get you started.

Who says you have to go out for date night? There are so many ways to have a fun and romantic evening at home with your special someone. Philly’s still chilly during early spring, so don’t brave the great outdoors just yet—stay home and try one of these ideas you’re both sure to enjoy.

Make Something that Lasts

You know that putting the finishing touches on your home is a job that’s never complete. Instead of making a “honey-do” list, say, “Honey, let’s do it together.” The possibilities are endless! You could go through your pictures and compile your favorites into a digital or hard copy photo album you’ll always cherish. You could build a birdhouse to hang in the tree in your backyard. You could even paint a picture together to hang on that bare spot on the wall. Whatever you create will be useful, but even better, whenever you look at it, you’ll recall the great time you had making it with your sweetie.

Plant the Seeds of Love

This is one date where you might get dirty! Sow the seeds of future delicious, home-cooked meals. April is a wonderful time to plant vegetables in the Mid-Atlantic region. If you have an outdoor garden, this is an excellent time to plant beets, arugula, carrots, leeks, lettuce, parsnips, radishes, scallions, and spinach. If you prefer to garden indoors, this is the right time to plant tomatoes, basil, marjoram, peppers, eggplant, and fennel. Plant your favorite veggies with your sweetheart, and in a few months, you’ll be able to enjoy eating them together, too!

Get Your Game On

Bring out each other’s competitive side with a game tournament! Go head to head playing your favorite video games, like Guitar Hero, Wii Golf or Bowling, or any other game you both enjoy. Don’t love video games? Try board or card games instead. Uno, Scrabble, Boggle, and Phillyopoly—that’s a Monopoly game with a Philadelphia twist—are all fun ideas. Make it even more competitive with a prize—the winner gets a back rub, a home-cooked meal, or to choose what you do on your next date night.

Give Your Oven Some Lovin’

Make a special meal together that you can both enjoy. This is a great chance to go on a culinary adventure in your own kitchen by choosing a new-to-you recipe to whip up. Try a new twist on a Philly favorite: make a healthier Chicken Philly Cheesesteak with fries, the zesty Philly-Goes-Mexican Cheesesteak, or the decadent Philly Cheesesteak Lasagna. Not exactly a master chef? No problem—order takeout from local favorites Geno’s Steaks, Jim’s Steaks, or Pat’s King of Steaks, and enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner at home.

Groove to Your Favorite Tunes

No need to go to the Trocadero or Electric Factory for a great concert. You can create a fun concert right in your very own living room. (Bonus: no crowds or expensive drink prices!) Search Netflix or Qello for a performance by a band you love, or see who’s playing on the television channel Palladia. Mix up some festive drinks for you and your sweetie to enjoy during the show, and enjoy the “live” music in the comfort of your own home.

Next time you think you and your partner need a night out in Philly, don’t forget to also consider a fun date night in. Do you have a favorite at-home date night idea? Leave a comment on this post!
