New condos in Honolulu are taking over the skyline, and buyers are wowed by what they are seeing.
I recently found old videos that I made in the 90s. They were so fun to watch after all these years. What really stood out, as I looked across the Ala Wai Marina towards Kakaako, was the fairly flat skyline. Only a couple of the (now many) Honolulu condo buildings were there at that time. 1350 Ala Moana, which has been around for a number or years, and Nauru Tower were under construction at that time. That was about it for high rise condo buildings in the Ala Moana/Kakaako areas. Fast forward 25 years, and the skyline looks a lot different. Tall modern buildings are home to many residents, with amazing ocean views and spectacular convenience to shopping, the beach, and restaurants.
The Hokua, Koolani, Hawaiki, One Ala Moana, and newest addition, the Waihonua, were not there in the 90s, yet they stand tall and offer beautiful living spaces for many residents of Honolulu. The addition of these buildings, however, is a small change in comparison to what is in store over the next 10 to 15 years in the now mostly industrial neighborhood of Kakaako. The area will be transformed into a residential community filled with high-end and affordable new condos, stores, restaurants, parks, and resident gathering places. Whole city blocks will be taken down, stores and businesses relocated, to make room for the new residential areas.
Much of the transformation is the vision and the plan of the Howard Hughes Corporation. That plan, the Ward Village Master plan, will include the now under construction luxury condo building, the Waiea, the Anaha, as well as AE’O, Gateway Towers, and the soon to be released for sale Ke Kilohana, which will offer 375 residences reserved for qualified Hawaii residents. The towers are located within walking distance to Ala Moana Beach Park, Kewalo Basin, and will have access to new stores, shops, restaurants, and Ala Moana Center within a short walk. Many of the residences will have amazing ocean views, and will be among the top new condos in Honolulu. The goal of the master plan is to bring people out of their units and to bring them together to socialize in the many community spaces, tree lined parkways, restaurants, and at each of the building’s amenities, including the pool decks.
888 Vida is yet another new luxury condominium building in Honolulu that will have breathtaking ocean views, and views of Waikiki and Diamond Head. The well-respected developers, The MacNaughton Group & Kobayashi Group, are the developers behind this amazing building. With private elevators to each suite, panoramic ocean views from every unit, top-end finishes and appliances, and 90,000-square-feet of private amenities, which include two pools, a gym, wine room, game room, and outdoor theater, to name a few — this building will not disappoint.
Other projects around the area include The Symphony, across the street from the Blaisdell Arena. The Symphony condo project is currently well under construction and will offer ocean and mountain views as well as an expansive amenities deck with a pool, spa, gym, gathering rooms, beautiful interior features, shops, and restaurants.
Let’s not forget Park Lane Ala Moana, which will line the front of Ala Moana Center along Ala Moana Boulevard. Park Lane is unlike many of the condominium projects that are currently under construction and for sale. While all the new buildings coming up are over 30 and 40 stories high, Park Lane is a low rise condominium project that will offer the feeling of single family home living, in a condo set up. A number of units will have private garages, private pools, and private lanais. The development will have its private entrance to Ala Moana Center, and will have high-end features, and shared amenities. Living in the heart of Honolulu, across from the beach, will amazingly feel very private by design.
Honolulu is definitely undergoing a transformation like it hasn’t in many years. The skyline is heading up, along with much requested luxury accommodations. Island living is by no means inexpensive, but what Hawaii offers is extremely unique, and highly desired by so many. Those who are lucky enough to call this paradise home are exposed to spectacular ocean views, top beaches, a mild year round climate that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the islands per year, relaxed island atmosphere, unbelievable food options, and the genuine friendliness of Hawaii residents.
This is only a summary of what is currently under development.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions about sales and current availability of the new projects. The majority of these condos are NOT listed on the MLS.
