Enjoy Some Time Outside

Sure, NYC summers are hot and humid, but they’re also short! Spend some time outside at one of these events.

The Village Voice’s 4Knots Music Festival hits Pier 84 on July 11. Enjoy great views of the city while listening to renowned and emerging indie rock bands, including headliners Super Furry Animals and Twin Peaks.

You’re sure to get drenched at Water Fight on July 25. Awaken your inner child and bring your super soaker to Central Park!

Enjoy everything from yoga to movies to music during Summer on the Hudson. Each of these daily events takes place in Riverside Park. Grab a bite at Pier I, Boat Basin Cafe, or the new Ellington in the Park afterward.

Dance away the evening at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing to everything from live disco, Hawaiian swing, salsa, and more! Arrive early for a lesson, then kick up your heels all night. Take a break to cool off with a drink and food from the Hill Country Barbecue Market stand.

Have Fun for Free

Summer in New York can be expensive. Save your money for weekends at the beach by attending these free events.

Head to Central Park for Shakespeare in the Park. Catch The Tempest before it ends on July 5, then get tickets for Cymbeline, starting July 23.

Pack a picnic, grab a bottle of wine, and head to Central Park for SummerStage. Performances are scheduled throughout the summer, and this July you can catch Basement Jaxx, Classical Theater of Harlem, and more!

Catch a free movie during the Bryant Park Summer Film Festival. The Poseidon Adventure, I’m No Angel, Badlands, and Footloose are all showing this July.

The park also hosts Broadway in Bryant Park. Stop by to hear the biggest hits from the most popular shows on and off Broadway.

It’s sure to be sticky and uncomfortably hot this summer in New York, so step inside and cool off for a bit.
