Every pitcher dreams of a debut game like Steven Matz had last year in 2015.  The then twenty-four-year-old rookie started off by giving up a home run to the first batter he faced.  But the baseball Gods were smiling down on the young lefty that day.

Though pitchers are normally an automatic out when they are at bat, in the bottom of the second inning, Matz lined a double to deep center field, scoring two runners and taking the lead.  Matz would go on to finish the game 3 for 3 with 4 RBI (!) leading to a 7-2 win.  Steven would go on to help his favorite childhood team reach the World Series to face another 2016 Home Field Advantage star, Ben Zobrist and the Kansas City Royals.

The Long Island native has never forgotten his roots – which is why he is taking us on a tour of childhood home in New York.

If you believe in destiny, Steven Matz was born to play for the New York Mets.  His entire family bleeds blue and orange, and the entire Long Island community has rallied around their hometown kid. Watching Steven have a catch with his father out in the yard as they’ve undoubtedly done thousands of times shows that no matter how famous or successful one can be, there’s nothing like home.
