Exploring the Exclusive Caribbean Enclave with French Heritage and Island Lifestyle with Coldwell Banker Saint Barth.

Nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, Saint Barthélemy is a true paradise for those seeking a blend of luxury and natural beauty. And now it is home to one of our newest Coldwell Banker offices, Coldwell Banker Saint Barth. Broker/Owner Gabriel Montigny, who has also opened an office in the French Riviera, took the time to share the unique lifestyle on the island, which combines the tranquility of pristine beaches with the sophistication of gourmet dining and high-end shopping. Whether savoring a leisurely lunch on the beach or taking a relaxing walk along the coast, every moment on this island is a celebration of the finer things in life, and luxury travelers have been flocking to Saint Barth for years during the holidays and high season.

As shared by Gabriel, the perfect weekend in Saint Barthélemy is a seamless blend of relaxation and indulgence. One can picture savoring a delicious lunch on the beach, followed by a leisurely afternoon soaking up the sun on the soft, white sands. As the day winds down, a sumptuous dinner awaits, offering a taste of the island’s renowned culinary scene with French influences.  He states, “Saint-Barthélemy is much more than just a destination; it is a place where elegance meets serenity. Its charm lies in the pristine beauty of its landscapes, the exclusivity of its atmosphere, and the warmth of its culture.” One of the key elements, of course, is the tranquility the island offers for its more discerning guests. As Monsieur Montigny shares, “it is a true haven of peace where every moment becomes an unforgettable experience.” Given the island’s remote location, getting there is an adventure, with travelers often connecting through regional airports in the Caribbean or taking a scenic ferry ride from Saint-Martin, and perhaps lends to the air of mystique around the island. This journey, much like the island itself, is a testament to the exclusivity and charm that define Saint Barthélemy.

Where do you live? I have the privilege of living on the beautiful island of Saint Barthélemy in the Caribbean. From now on, I will also spend part of the year in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez following the opening of my agency in Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, in addition to my agency in Saint Barthélemy.

What is the perfect weekend day like? In Saint Barthélemy, a perfect weekend involves a nice lunch on the beach, a delicious dinner, and a bit of time relaxing on the sand. All of this, of course, while continuing to serve our buyer and seller clients.

What are the common modes of transportation there? Saint-Barthélemy, due to the limited size of its airport, can only accommodate small aircraft. As a result, there are no direct flights from Europe or the United States to the island. Travelers must connect via regional airports in the Caribbean.

  • From Europe: Passengers traveling from Europe, particularly France, can take flights to Princess Juliana International Airport in Saint-Martin (SXM). Airlines such as Air France and KLM offer connections to this airport. From Saint-Martin, regional carriers like St Barth Commuter and Winair provide regular flights to Saint-Barthélemy, with a flight time of approximately 15 minutes.
  • From the United States: American travelers can also transit through Princess Juliana International Airport in Saint-Martin, with direct flights from cities like Miami, New York, or Atlanta, operated by airlines such as American Airlines or Delta. Once in Saint-Martin, they can take a regional flight to Saint-Barthélemy. Alternatively, travelers can transit through San Juan in Puerto Rico, where airlines like Tradewind Aviation or St Barth Executive offer flights to Saint-Barthélemy.

It is also possible to reach Saint-Barthélemy by ferry from Saint-Martin, with regular crossings lasting about 45 minutes. It is recommended to check the schedules and availability of regional flights, as they may vary depending on the season and weather conditions.

Tell us about the foods your area is known for. The Gastronomy of Saint-Barthélemy: A Tribute to French Cuisine. Saint-Barthélemy, a true jewel of the Caribbean, is also a paradise for gastronomy enthusiasts. The island offers refined cuisine, deeply rooted in French culinary traditions, while drawing inspiration from its exceptional island setting.

At the heart of the local specialties, fish holds a place of honor. Every day, fishermen bring in treasures from the ocean: tuna, snapper, mahi-mahi, and even lobsters, which are elevated in recipes ranging from the simplicity of grilled fish to the sophistication of delicately seasoned ceviche.

In Saint-Barth, every meal becomes an unforgettable experience, a celebration of the joys of fine dining in an idyllic setting. This is an island where luxury is also savored on the palate.

What is your favourite meal, at home or at a restaurant? My husband is a chef and runs a restaurant on the beach at Grand Cul-de-Sac. Gastronomy plays a central role in both of our lives. I enjoy family-style dishes such as blanquette de veau or beef bourguignon just as much as Italian cuisine, with delicious pasta or a flavorful pizza. I also love Japanese flavors and Thai cuisine. In Saint-Barthélemy, anything is possible: the selection of restaurants is extensive and of exceptional quality.

What is your favourite recreational or leisure time activity?  I work a lot in Saint-Barth and don’t have much time for leisure, despite the many activities available, such as surfing, diving, or hiking. However, whenever I have a moment, I love taking a nice walk along the coast. I particularly recommend the trail from Flamands to Colombier Beach.

Share a little known but interesting fact about the area/region: A little-known fact about Saint-Barthélemy is its Swedish heritage. Although the island is now a French territory, it was under Swedish rule for nearly a century, from 1784 to 1878. This history is still evident in the name of the capital, Gustavia, which honors King Gustav III of Sweden, as well as in certain aspects of the local architecture. Every year, the island celebrates its Swedish history with the Saint-Barthélemy Festival, a cultural event that attracts both locals and visitors. This unique blend of French and Swedish heritage adds to the island’s charm and distinctive identity.

If you were to live in any other region where we have a Coldwell Banker presence, where would it be and why? I have already made the choice to live part-time in another region with the opening of the Coldwell Banker Saint Barth Azur agency in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. I have been in love with this region since my earliest childhood… For me, there is no more beautiful place on Earth.
