Are you new to Military City, USA? Me too — welcome! One of my first priorities when I moved here (besides unpacking) was to find some of the best San Antonio spots to visit. I’ve moved several times and each city has its own unique places that make it special. San Antonio is no different. Here are just a few of the places you need to check out as you acclimate to this awesome new location!
The Riverwalk
I know — this one is an obvious San Antonio spot that EVERYONE visits, but hear me out. Even though the Riverwalk can be overrun with tourists, it can still be a great place to see, if you know when to go! I recently went on a Monday afternoon with some out-of-towners and had the BEST time! There was plenty of room to roam and no waits at any of the bars or restaurants. Since you brought it up, did I mention the amazing happy hours on the Riverwalk? Starting around 3 p.m., you can find some great places for a drink or a snack on a gorgeous afternoon! If you simply like shopping or wandering aimlessly, we’ve got all you can handle! There’s even affordable parking nearby! Take an afternoon off and treat yourself!
The Alamo Drafthouse
Do you like dinner and a movie? How about both at the same time? That’s right! This San Antonio spot will serve you dinner during the movie! They even have a decent selection of wine, beer, liquor, and a unique assortment of “adult milkshakes.” The seats are comfy and the service is great! Best of all, if you like an early dinner, the movie price is under $10 before 5 p.m.! The Alamo Drafthouse has three locations in San Antonio. I will be a frequent patron when the summer heat arrives and my go-to will be the chicken and chorizo pizza!
Natural Bridge Caverns
Located about 45 minutes north of the city, the Natural Bridge Caverns is a great San Antonio spot to check out when you want to commune with nature. There are all sorts of fun things to explore at this sprawling complex. Apart from a variety of cavern tours, there is an adventure course and zip lining! It’s great for one person or a whole group of your friends! Even the kids are sure to love Natural Bridge Caverns!
Sunset at the Chart House
How would you like to have dinner in a rotating restaurant about 750 feet in the air, while enjoying a 360-degree panorama of downtown? Well this San Antonio spot can make it happen! The Chart House is located in the Tower of the Americas, the tallest structure in downtown San Antonio. The restaurant slowly spins (about 30 minutes for a full rotation) allowing you to take in the entire city. The lounge overlooks the restaurant in a fixed, westward view. Happy hour in the lounge is a great place to relax and watch the sunset as the city lights up beneath your feet! I have yet to find a better place to view downtown!
There are so many more San Antonio spots to see! These are just a few of my personal favorites. Stay tuned for more to come as I have only begun to scratch the surface of this amazing city!
