Last May Coldwell Banker launched a first of its kind YouTube channel that we named Coldwell Banker On Location. The concept was to enhance the real estate shopping experience by allowing customers to search for videos of homes for sale, Coldwell Banker agents, and even local community videos through a simple interface. And we figured what better place to have a video channel than on YouTube.

But that’s only half the story. You see Coldwell Banker On Location almost didn’t happen. The idea for this YouTube channel came out of a collective brainstorming session in 2008 within the marketing team where different groups presented some ideas for potential “game changing” campaigns that we could launch in 2009.

A number of interesting ideas were discussed and by a slim margin it was decided that a real estate channel on YouTube would be the direction for 2009. A few folks were having second thoughts and as we started to go about creating On Location there were a number of times when the project almost met its demise.  But we stayed the course despite these obstacles and on May 5, 2009 we launched Coldwell Banker On Location. And one million plus visits later we feel we’ve created something that will have a lasting impact.

Consumers have told us that the idea of seeing a video of a home before visiting it is more interesting to them than just looking at pictures. Our agents across the country have seen the value in it as well as they’ve uploaded 11,000 videos to Coldwell Banker On Location in the first 11 months.

The great part is we’re not done yet. Not even close. Videos from On Location are incorporated into coldwellbanker.com property pages as well as agent videos on agent profile pages. There’s a lot more coming and the Coldwell Banker network of agents and offices across the globe are jumping on board.

    Great job Michael and Team. CB On Location is a great example of a innovative company that doesn't wait for everyone else to create a "status quo."

    I just wish more of our local agents would take advantage of this great tool.

    I am also in real estate in Austin, Texas, but I am not in sells, I am an Austin Apartment Locator , I have been in the job about 4 years, when I first started I really wanted to get into sales, but now I really enjoy the fact that I only spend a few hours before the deal get closed.
