2015 Holiday Home Gift Guide: What to Buy for the Sports Fan

Hit a grand slam this holiday season with these fun gifts for the ultimate sports fan!

In my humble opinion, sports are the most unpredictable and exciting form of live entertainment currently available to keep the masses captivated.  If you can prove that waiting for which judge spins their chair around on “The Voice” is more thrilling than a game winning touchdown or buzzer beater, then I will acquiesce – but I have yet to find a convincing argument.

Since so many share my love of this culture, sports themed presents are always a favorite during the holiday season.  Yet, some may need some direction when deciding on the perfect gift.  So, to make it easy, we broke it down into large, medium and stocking-stuffer sized present for the sports lover of any size and passion.

Go Big, or Go Home

If you aren’t looking to mess around with the gift giving in 2015, these ideas below are right up your alley!

Multi-game Combo Table:  Recreate the experience of your sport’s fan’s favorite bar in your own home! Depending on which table you choose, enjoy billiards, ping pong, air hockey, foosball and more all in one to take game nights to the next level.  Just make sure the person receiving this gift has the space to fully enjoy it!

Create the Ultimate Sports Man Cave/She Shed:  Sports lovers need a retreat to root for their favorite team or player without distraction.  Maybe this holiday season is the time to update the TV, add or revamp the bar, or get a new throne to watch over the sports room of their dreams.

The Goldilocks Size

Not too big, not too small; these gifts are just right for the sports fan in your life!

Memorabilia:  Those who cheer for their favorite teams are called fanatics for a reason.  People risk life and limb climbing over rows of seats to grab a loose foul ball or catch a sweaty headband from their favorite player as they are walking off of the field/court.  Save your loved ones’ health (and sanity), by gifting them a unique piece of memorabilia!  Both SteinerSports.com and SportsMemorabilia.com are great places to start.

SI Neg. 2004-11263. Date: 2004. Signed by Ruth and 26 other Yankees, this ball was a get-well gift for Elliot Spencer, a young neighbor of the Yankees' manager. Before Ruth and cork-centered balls, home runs were rare. Ruth regularly drove the ball into the stands or out of the park. Fans lined up for autographs, which he gladly provided. Make it Your Own:  Virtually everything can be personally tailored and customized for that special person in your life.  Wood carved replicas of your favorite MLB stadium to hang in the man cave? Yes.  Full sized wall decals?  Obviously.  Yankee Stadium grass seed mix to grow your lawn the same way they do for in the Bronx?  Crazy, but yes, this exists and may be the perfect gift for the baseball fan with a green thumb.

Stocking Stuffers

Don’t be fooled!  Although these gifts are small, they pack a big punch!

Remote/Bottle Opener: Finally, you can flip through all of the games on your favorite couch and open up bottles of adult beverages all without having to put anything down.  This is why the Revolutionary War was fought.

Warm Up:  Instead of knitting new gloves or scarves, why not save time and get them winter gear that shows off their team pride instead!  While you’re at it, why not also grab a gorgeous ugly sweater to wear around the house?

Sports brings people together and evokes passions from people that ordinary activities do not.  They say that you can’t buy a championship in sports, so getting the sports fan in your life a gift that can let them enjoy their favorite team or player more will have to do.
