‘Tis the season for hanging stockings from the mantel with care. But what if your DFW home doesn’t have a fireplace? Don’t let that take the jolly out of your holiday decor. There are many interesting ways to hang a Christmas stocking — no fireplace required.
1. Make use of existing hooks.
When it comes to hanging stockings, you’ll need a sturdy spot — especially if Santa Claus has plans to fill those stockings with a few surprises. Start by taking stock of the hooks you already have in place. You may have some above your entry table where you typically hang your keys. Or perhaps you have a set of hooks in your laundry room. If there’s a hook, there’s a way to add some Christmas cheer with a stocking.
2. Turn up the festive factor with ordinary furniture.
Common pieces of furniture — think dining room chairs or a bookcase, for example — can be the ideal spot for placing a Christmas stocking. You’ll want to find a place where you can hook your stocking while still keeping it visible. A few other ideas could include the decorative handle on an armoire or the tall post on the back of a wooden chair. If you don’t have any furniture that works, you can always hang your stocking from a doorknob.
3. Bring on the garland and ribbons.
Here’s a way to add some seasonal cheer to your room: Hang a festive ribbon or garland along your window, and then attach your Christmas stockings using decorative clothespins. Here are a few jolly options — from reindeer and snowmen to washi-covered clothespins.
4. Deck the stairs.
For a classic holiday look, try hanging your stockings from the stairs. You can attach them to the staircase spindles or grab some self-adhesive hooks. This way you won’t leave any permanent marks on your staircase or walls. Up the jolliness of your stairs by adding a lush green garland.
5. Take it outside.
For a whimsical touch, consider bringing your Christmas stockings outside. This looks especially cheery if you have a nice pine tree or spruce tree in your yard. Just look for a low branch and hang your stockings for all to see and enjoy.
When you’re ready to start hanging stockings this Christmas season, just try a few of these unique alternatives if you don’t have a fireplace. Or, if you’d rather be out enjoying the merriment of the season, you can always leave your holiday decorating to the pros. Here’s a list of the top holiday decorating services in Dallas. Cheers!
