There’s a children’s song that’s called “The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock” and it seems very appropriate for this incredible home located in the middle of the Drina River in Serbia that has weathered the elements for 45 years but still stands firm.
According to MyModernMet.com, the structure was not planned but rather built over time. It started out with swimmers in the Drina River gathering on the rock in the middle of the water to take a rest. Eventually they found the rock to be uncomfortable and started bringing out boards to lay on to make their resting place a bit more enjoyable.
Soon they realized the sun could get very hot as they lay on the rock, so they decided to construct a shelter. Over time pieces were added and the home began to be developed into more of a solid structure. Pieces of the home were brought in by boat or kayak or simply placed in the water upstream and allowed the people on the rock to grab them as they floated by.
This home has never been knocked down even thought it’s been beaten down with rain, floods and winds as you can see in this video. A home, built by a community and cared for by visitors, has stood the test of time.
Incredible.
