Living in the Niagara Region

Being born and raised in the Niagara Region, I have a deep appreciation for what it has to offer. Whether you want to open a new business, looking to retire, or searching for a great place to raise a family, Niagara should be at the top of your list.

Being born and raised in the Niagara Region, I have a deep appreciation for the amenities it has to offer. The best part about Niagara is hidden in plain sight . . . the location! We all know real estate is about location, location, location, and a buyer’s decision on where to live is typically almost always about just that.

Located in southern Ontario, Canada, between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, the Niagara Region makes up a total area of 1,852 square kilometers with a population of 449,098 and services Fort Erie, Grimsby, Lincoln, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls, Pelham, Port Colborne, St. Catharines, Thorold, Wainfleet, Welland and West Lincoln.

Niagara is minutes from the American border and about an hour from Toronto. This offers advantages in four key areas.

Workforce

The Nigara Region’s workforce is comprised of more than a million workers within a 30-minute commute, and it has a canal that transports more than 40 million tons of goods each year to locations worldwide. You can easily see why Niagara is on the radar for corporations to set up shop. It is no wonder the GO Transit system is expanding to Niagara by 2021.

School

With a worldclass University (Brock University) and College (Niagara College), Niagara continues to draw on new talents and innovations. In addition, the opening of venues such as the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre is quickly setting Niagara apart as a hotspot for culture and the arts.

Leisure

Niagara sits between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, which offers camping, parks, cottages, and beaches. The Niagara Peninsula is Canada’s largest wine growing region with a unique microclimate facilitated by the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario. It hosts a plethora of wineries, micro breweries, and fine dining establishments.

Travel

A day’s drive from Montreal, New York, Boston, and Chicago, and an hour’s drive to Toronto and Buffalo Airports make Niagara a traveller’s ideal home location.

Niagara offers an exceptional lifestyle. You are close to the big cities without the big city hustle and bustle, yet it is large enough that you still have access to amazing amenities like the Niagara Outlet Collection and the Meridian Centre, which is home to the Niagara Icedogs and Niagara River Lions and has hosted performers such as Jerry Seinfeld and events like Scotties Tournament of Hearts. For the foodie, there are many places to let your palate explore with fine dining all across the region, but there is nothing like a great meal on a patio overlooking the vineyards at one of the many wineries (like at Two Sisters Vineyards). My personal favourites are the specialty shops scattered throughout the region like Beechwood Donuts. Let’s not forget the world famous Niagara Falls, all too often taken for granted by locals and is simply stunning year round.
