February can feel a bit dark and gloomy while cooped up in your NYC apartment — the magic of the holidays is long passed, January’s feeling of new beginnings has faded, and if you’re unattached, Valentine’s Day isn’t much to get excited about. However, there are a lot of fun things to do in NYC in February to help fight the winter blues. Here are a few great options:
The Jacqueline de Ribes Exhibit
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Exhibition Jacqueline de Ribes: The Art of Style, focuses on the large couture collection of the designer and international style icon. There are beautiful designer outfits on display but more than that, a lot of fascinating things to learn at this lovely exhibition, which runs through February 21st. If you’re a fashion lover, this should be at the top of your list of things to do in NYC in February, before it ends!
City Bakery Hot Chocolate Festival
The month of February is cold and icy — the perfect time for helping yourself to a hot chocolate at City Bakery during their Hot Chocolate Festival. The Festival runs for the duration of the month and provides a chance to try tons of new and exotic types of hot chocolate flavors. You can try a different hot chocolate each day, with flavors ranging from Creamy Stout Hot Chocolate to Ginger Hot Chocolate to Espresso Hot Chocolate and many, many more. Topped with one of their giant homemade marshmallows, this is the perfect warming drink to shake you out of your winter doldrums. Check out the full calendar of flavors here.
Cooking Class at Haven’s Kitchen
Cooking is a fun indoor activity to undertake in the chilly winter months, which makes February the perfect month to learn some new skills in the kitchen. At Haven’s Kitchen, a lovely cafe and cooking school located in the Flatiron District, you can sign up for classes like Mastering the Classics and Winter Brunch and Seasonal Tips. Visit their website to check availability.
Munch and Expressionism at The Neue Gallerie
When it comes to fun things to do in NYC in February, taking in some art and culture is at the top of the list. One exciting happening is at the Neue Gallerie on Fifth Avenue. Starting February 18th, they will be featuring an exhibition entitled Munch and Expressionism, which will explore the work of famed artist Edvard Munch and his influence on his contemporaries (and vice versa). His most famous work, The Scream, will be on view.
