As a pet owner, your companion’s safety in your home is a primary focus. With a little proactive effort, you can ensure you have a pet-friendly home that is secure and cozy by minimizing risks and blending practicality with love. Consider:

Pet-Proofing Rooms

Get down on your curious creature’s level and look for loose wires, small objects or sharp edges that could hurt your pet. Then make it your mission to hide chewing hazards, remove harmful items and add padding around corners. Additionally, some greenery can be toxic to different animals. You’ll want to eliminate dangerous flora, like lilies, philodendrons and pothos, and switch to pet-safe options like spider plants or Boston ferns to ensure your home is pet-friendly.

Adding Extra Safeguards

Your lovable animals can be mischievous, so it’s worth taking a second look at rooms with cleaning supplies, food, medications and outdoor access that your friends could get curious about. Then add a layer of protection to make it a pet-friendly home by securing cabinets with child-proof safety locks, installing gates or latches to off-limit rooms, windows or doorways and storing garbage and food items in out-of-reach places.

Incorporating Pet-Friendly Cleaning

Cleaning up may not be the most fun part of caring for your pet, but it can reduce potential health hazards and emergency trips to the vet. Choose pet-safe cleaning solutions and fight off allergens and germs while removing stains and odors. When upgrading or adding décor, consider furniture with fabrics like leather or tightly woven materials that resist trapping pet hair and odors.

Blending in Love for a Pet-Friendly Home

A safe home also means a comfortable home. Set up a designated spot for your pet so they feel nurtured. Whether it is a fuzzy bed in a quiet corner, a crate, a perch, a ledge or a gated small room away from main walkways, you’ll want to consider your pet’s personality and the home’s design to determine what works best. Add a homey touch with their favorite blanket or toys. And if they love the outdoors, double-check the perimeters and ensure any escape artists can’t get past the defenses.

With these simple details, you’ll make your home sanctuary secure and welcoming for your pet – and have more time to enjoy it with them.
