October is here. And that means two things: pumpkin spice flavored everything and playoff baseball.
For the past few years, we’ve taken you inside the homes of Major League Baseball’s biggest stars to give you their story of home off of the field during their grueling 162 game schedule. But now, the playoffs are here. And for some of our Homefield Advantage stars, they will need to grind out several more weeks in their push for the World Series title.
Last night, the American League Wild Card game kicked off the playoffs in style. Kevin Pillar and Josh Donaldson of the Toronto Blue Jays edged out Adam Jones and the Baltimore Orioles when Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion belted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
The “Blue Birds” will move on to face the Red Sox and MVP candidate Mookie Betts in the American League Divisional round of the American League Playoffs.
On the National League side, Jacob DeGrom, Steven Matz and the New York Mets will be playing their one-game Wild Card playoff against Brandon Belt, Joe Panik and the San Francisco giants tonight. The winner will move onto the National League Divisional Round to face Kris Bryant, Ben Zobrist and the World Series favorite Chicago Cubs.
The winner of that NLDS series will be playing the winner between the Joc Pederson, Yasiel Puig and the Los Angeles Dodgers and Ryan Zimmerman and the Washington Nationals.
The end of the baseball season is bittersweet for players. For most, the sting of missing the playoffs is still fresh, some comfort can be taken from knowing they will be able to spend more time at home with their families. But for the top teams in the game, the season goes to game 163 and beyond. And our Homefield Advantage lineup is poised to continue their success to a hopeful World Series championship run.
