Help Displaced Pets from Hurricane Harvey during the Homes for Dogs National Adoption Weekend

Coldwell Banker and Adopt-a-Pet.com set out to find foster care for displaced pets in Texas and Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Harvey as part of the Homes for Dogs National Adoption Weekend

Hurricane Harvey has impacted so many, and all of us at Coldwell Banker are focused on ways that we can help.

We support our parent company Realogy, which has pledged to match up to $75,000 for Red Cross Hurricane Harvey relief for funds raised via the Realogy Charitable Foundation. We also support the relief efforts of our local offices. Many of which are doing amazing things like the online fundraiser that Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper launched in concert with the American Red Cross to help families by raising funds, volunteering and working with local shelters.

And as we approached our Homes for Dogs National Adoption Weekend (September 9 and 10, 2017) with long-time partner Adopt-a-Pet.com, North America’s largest non-profit pet adoption website, we immediately thought about ways we could also support families and their pets who were impacted by this terrible storm.

In speaking with our friends at Adopt-a-Pet.com they noted that fostering displaced pets is incredibly important when disasters like this strike. Today, they announced another important initiative that we are lending our support to in tandem with this weekend’s National Adoption Weekend. Foster a Hurricane Pet is the only peer-to-peer online platform that helps displaced people find local citizens who can provide temporary foster homes for pets until they can be welcomed back home. By matching pets in need with local foster care, there will be less overcrowding in shelters and unnecessary transporting of displaced pets to various distant places. Adopt-a-Pet.com urges landlords in the communities affected by Hurricane Harvey to make temporary exceptions to housing bans on pets so more homes can foster pets in need.

While the Foster a Hurricane Pet tool is specifically intended for areas impacted by Hurricane Harvey, people in other regions of the country are encouraged to lend support by participating in their local National Adoption Weekend event. In addition to the work that Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper in San Antonio has already done, they are also making big preparations for their National Adoption Weekend events taking place Saturday, September 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and encouraging people to volunteer for temporary foster care.
